[IC] Custom acrylic wrist rest
« on: Thu, 18 July 2013, 20:44:28 »
After a few requests of that acrylic wrist rest, I want to check with you guys if it's worth or not. In my opinion, the only problem is shipping those parts. But we can solve it. ;)

Prices:

60% (Tested with a Poker II)
1-9   = $25
10-19 = $20
20-30 = $18

TKL / Compact
1-9   = $30
10-19 = $25
20-30 = $22

Full size
1-9   = $35
10-19 = $30
20-30 = $27

You guys can chose what's the measurements of the wrist rest (that of the picture has about 115mm/4.5in). To personalize it with a sandblasting job, will cost plus $5 (I think it's worth).

Shipping costs (I'm in Brazil):

Yes, it's expensive. A good alternative is shipping a box with 5-10 parts to somebody and this "distributor" ship them individually. I can make individual packages so this person won't have to spend time packing everything. Of course, I need people to help me with this and the buyers will need to pay this other shipping to this guy.

And just to confirm, I don't work with it and don't intend to make money from it, but there's $1 included in each part to cover some costs. I'll have to "depilate" the plotter, take it for the sandblasting job, clean it and pack.

Estimated time? 5-7 days after payment. So, if you're really interested and agree with those values, post it and what's the size you want.

Thanks.

I personally don't care for one, I'm just here to say... I never thought acrylic could be so beautiful. Some of the pictures of other things like the mouse storage is just wonderful. Well done to the craftsman!

Would it be possible to get a 60% version without the area I have tried to show in the pic below?
Or maybe take a picture of it with your hands using the keyboard.... to show the scale?

1x - EU/60%/sandblasting

Length of the wrist-rest seems crazy, but I like it!

Sure. As I said, you can choose those measurements (okay, I said size :))). This one belongs to badcop:

Thanks man. I also thought like that 3 years ago until I asked for that HAF side panel. Check this:

what is the measurement without the area I drew a box around? :)

edit: "To personalize it with a sandblasting job, will cost plus $5 (I think it's worth)."

Is this for the geekhack in the picture only or can we have anything sandblasted on it?

If you need somebody distributing it in the US I can help.
(personally not very interested in these wrist rests though because I still have to upgrade my desk.)

also how are you going to do the cable/connector cut outs for tkl and full size keyboards since they are not always at the left like 60% keyboards.

I'm not 100% set on it (depends on some other expenses), but I'm interested in a 60% wrist rest.

Good question, but since Smeagol said that you can choose the length of the horizontal part I guess you can choose the length of the part where the keyboard sits in as well?

In for one. 60% with sandblasting. Can I send you an image file to be sandblasted onto it?

That back "piece" has 293x30mm and the drilled box has 19x22mm. Sorry I didn't understand your question.  :-X

You can choose whatever you want. Of course nothing obscene. I don't want to look like a dumbass when take it to sandblasting.  :))

Easy, just drilling a hole. There're some different types of keyboards and USB ports. But you need to get me the exactly measurements. For example:

Good question, but since Smeagol said that you can choose the length of the horizontal part I guess you can choose the length of the part where the keyboard sits in as well?

Yep, you're right. ;)

What kind of effect does sandblasting have on the acrylic?

You mean visually or physically? Looks like a mirror after a hot bath. :)) It becomes a little bit rough. You can see it at those pictures.

I'm not 100% set on it (depends on some other expenses), but I'm interested in a 60% wrist rest.

Okay. I'll add you.

Thanks. Sure, actually it's an "easy" plotter without too much details. If confirmed, you choose the place and measurements.

Consider me "interested" on a TKL in the USA. I'm currently juggling between keyboards and don't know what I'm going to end up with.

i guess that the shipping costs are a little overwhelming for some people (for 10rests it's about $6/ea and shipping to the individuals again)

There's no minimum quantity, but the price can change. Of course 5-10 parts to the same country would be worth. Otherwise it'll be too much expensive to ship it individually.

just a quick suggestion:

if you can also offer dust covers for a decent price, people might consider it since I don't think that the shipping will go up much.

Count me in on this. I am desperately looking for a nice dust cover. There was an interest check for an acryilc one a year ago, but it was never made.

Would it be possible to get a 60% version without the area I have tried to show in the pic below?
Or maybe take a picture of it with your hands using the keyboard.... to show the scale?

I'm interested into this smaller version too ...
Any chance??

I won't sell those covers because since it's bended, it curves slightly. To get completely straight, only cutting and gluing.

Cara, a peça pode sair R$40 ou R$50 dependendo da quantidade. Pra mandar via PAC deve ser entre R$15 e R$18. Mas tô só repassando os valores. Pra ficar correndo atrás disso, só se for uma vez para mais gente. :(
