it seems 12 cable (6 right/6 left hand)
how to teensy, whether I need two?

So you just need six cables to connect the two? Then Cat 5 should be good. I would recommend looking into how the ErgoDox works, it's completly open source afaik.

this should be in a new thread for modding the ergodox to use a cat5 cable instead of the one provided with the kit.

He wants to build his own keyboard using hardwiring, so his question is not about modding the ErgoDox. But yes, yasua you should make a new thread in the "Making stuff together" section if you need help with that project.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the media controls of a Mac keyboard to work in Windows? I found this video, but I'm not sure how I feel about installing random keyboard drivers from a youtube video.

I don't at all. It's an HHKB. The problem is they don't seem to return anything for AHK to pick up. The Eject key returns F20, but Vol_Up, Vol_Dn, and Mute don't seem to return anything. Also, aquakey picks up some signal from Eject as well, but nothing from the others.

For users that do not want to mod there keyboard and might be looking for a easy way to remap keys in windows...
http://www.randyrants.com/2006/07/sharpkeys_211.html

to finish the info about the hhkb.
from what I have been reading the only special buttons on the mac hhkb that can be remapped in windows is  eject and it equals F20.

sharpkeys can help you change F20 to whatever you want in windows if you want to do just that.

The media features (vol-up, dn, mute) are Mac only features. You will have to use Autohotkey or other keyboard utility.

I know that. But I was just wondering, what with the amount of people who use Windows and the ingenuity of some of those people, that someone might have come up with a way to build a hook into Windows to receive those signals. It's no big deal to me if it's impossible. I won't go out of my way to use them. I just figured if they were there, why not.

Yeah they're a thing. I've been using them for a little while in my reviews but I think this has been my best usage of it so far. You know how they work right?

Can someone tell me the size of a KMAC Happy please?

Judging from the picture that Calavera posted from KBD:

It looks to be the same size as my KMAC LE without the navigation/arrow cluster. I will be taking measurements from my KMAC LE then since that's what is in front of me.

So if I measure the width from the left edge to the keyboard to the right edge where F12 is I get: 11.5 inches.

The right bezel between the F12 to the navigation cluster isnt' the same size as the left bezel so we'll just measure the left bezel and then add that to the first measuremeant: 0.5 inches

So total width is 12 inches. And height (from bezel below left ctrl to bezel above escape) is 5.5 inches.

5.5 inches is too much. I measure my HHKB and only get 4.25". I'd say that thing looks a little bit wider, but not that much more.

My HHKB is .75" front, 1.25" back. I only offer these numbers being that it seems they were looking to emulate it in some regard. I know you want measurements of the Happy in particular, so someone else would have to measure that for you.

What about the height? :)

I'm going to call this thickness because I already used the word height. The thickness of my KMAC LE is 13/16 inch.

Like I said before, I'm *assuming* that the KMAC LE and Happy are similar based on the picture and when I tried the Happy in real life at Chicago. As always, I might be wrong.

I'm looking to edit the function layer on my KMAC Happy, but all the KMAC keybinding programs I have found only have templates for the regular KMAC and the Mini, not the Happy.  Can I just change, say, the KMAC Mini template to match the row/column layout of the Happy, or do I need to find the exact Happy template file?  Do all these boards use the same controller?

You can reprogram the KMAC Happy using the KMAC2 .exe. I confirmed this with jcrouse.

The controller on the KMAC is a ATMega16, as shown here.

Search for somebody who does laser cutting (theres also some people in the professional services directory), aluminium is a common material for plates and they can get you one made.

What is Cherry's MOQ for switches? I keep hearing it's stupid crazy high, but how many is stupid crazy? I'd be curious enough to see if there's a demand for something like Clears or Greens to set up a GB for it, but if it's like 2 millions switches, then we can just.. not do that.

It depends on your supplier. There one supplier that has a MOQ of 800, for 24.51¢ United States cents each.

here is a example at mouser

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Cherry-Electrical/MX1A-11NW/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsqIr59i2oRck%252brJF20sIm2GQvQAXuvA88%3d

moq is 1 but the more you order the cheaper it gets... i.e. groupbuy
        1:   $0.98
    50:   $0.75
    100:   $0.641
    250:   $0.497
    500:   $0.468

the confusion based on the very high number is because of this page.
http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX_Ergo_Clear

"On request, Cherry has stated that they would actually produce Ergo Clears in a slider-colour of choice, provided that they get an order of at least 750,000 switches. Among keyboard enthusiasts there is a controversy, whether such switches should be called "beiges", "pinks" or "violets"."

edit: the above prices change based on switch color and mount type.

Cherry MX Blacks and Blues, plate mounted. 800 MOQ, $0.2541 USD per switch.

It drops down to about $0.15 each when you order 100,000. These prices are still not directly from Cherry. I believe the normal MOQ is 8000.

For which switch type and what kind of lead time? $0.24/switch is a steal.

Cherry MX Blacks and Blues, plate mounted. 800 MOQ, $0.2541 USD per switch.

It drops down to about $0.15 each when you order 100,000. These prices are still not directly from Cherry. I believe the normal MOQ is 8000.

again the question is where are you seeing this price?

From a catalog that I will not post. Look around and you should be able to find a similar or the same price. There are other switches available, but it doesn't seem like the MOQ is as low as 800.

$0.49 is the cheapest before shipping @ 1000 ordered for plate mounted mx blacks.

$0.46 is the cheapest before shipping @ 1000 ordered for pcb mounted mx blacks.

If you can get prices that low then please arrange a groupbuy to compete with 7bit

7bit wants .65 euro each

So you're saying Cherry's MOQ is 8,000? Because that's not so bad. I can see why they would want upwards of a million to make a new stem/spring mix, but the demand is clearly there so they'll probably make it on their own anyways, eventually.

I am very very interested now that I'm actually starting to desolder. I have a mighty need for clears.

Okay, another question. Sorry for spamming this thread.

Mouser has clears listed here
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Cherry-Electrical/MX1A-C1NN/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMt3hSNP33T8%2fE6DQc5dkbQB7kwsFyn%2feDc%3d

But is says termination type "lug" as opposed to "solder" which some of the others have listed. Is this saying they're made to be used with a wired board, as opposed to PCB? Can we still solder lug terminations? Or am I completely off base?

Also, that page says 83 cents at 500 units but their catalog says differently. I figure we'd probably get significantly more than 500 sold in a GB anyways, so I'd ask for an updated extended pricing.

TL:DR
these things I linked. Those things for purchase? Or I want other things?

You are looking at redistributors, which will cost more because they themselves want to make a profit. The redistributors get their switches from a supplier or from Cherry.

I am also currently not interested in hosting a groupbuy or competing with 7bit because I may not have the time for it.

I am not sure on the MOQ directly from Cherry, but I assume it's around 8000 because that's what most suppliers seem to be requesting.
