Title: 2TU (TuTu) - Custom Korean 60% keyboard.
Post by: Binge on Wed, 01 May 2013, 10:57:25
For the past couple weeks I've been talking with a guy who is named Kailet on GH about his access/relation to the 2TU project.
(Kailet's Blog, http://22gongbang.tistory.com/)

Three orders can still be made from members of Geekhack.  Order deadline May 10th.  Please contact Kailet via e-mail if you need more information awshim@gmail.com

The 2TU also known as Two Thumbs Up or TuTu is a 60% board which is extremely similar in customization to our GH60 project.
Its design (pcb) is known as "thumb" and supports the following,

[attachimg=4]

Kailet is, from what I can tell, pretty involved in this project and a few of his own.  He is creating custom housings for these PCBs, and he has made full polycarbonate, polycarbonate and aluminum, and full aluminum slim designs.  In addition to designing and fabricating various housing solutions for this project he has also taken into consideration what he can do with the mix of materials.  I don't want to pat myself on the back too much because he may have had the idea already but after explaining that I would love to have a keyboard with interior glow he posted this picture.

[attach=1]*

Here's a video of one of the LED modes with the internal LEDs.

I was told by Kailet in other e-mails that he would make some of these keyboards for Geekhack members upon request.
These aren't cheap as most customs are not.  I got confirmation on prices!

Quote
The rough price for PCB+Housing plus shipping would be little less than $250.
And one assembled will be a little less than $400.
Shipping will be $30 to $40 for a safe and quick delivery called EMS with a tracking number.
It normally takes around 4 days.

He has 5 PCBs available for members of our forum.
He can be reached by e-mail at awshim@gmail.com
I only asked for this information in case some serious collectors wanted to know of availability.

Originally before knowing anything about this Korean custom project I followed a link boost made in this thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42400.0).
Big thanks to boost for the heads up!

Maybe a more elegant way to solve the solderless switch opening problem?

I'm pretty sure the notches are there because of the new plate thickness.  The post that picture came from details how he is increasing plate thickness.
It also looks like it's a way for the plate to be universal for various layouts.

Any switch experts out there have a comment on the design?

Well, actually, those have nothing to do with swapping springs and stems without desoldering. :)
Binge explained well about that.
Those dimples/notches are there to firmly hold the switches at 1.5mm from the top of the plate since it's 2mm now.
There are latches on the top and bottom sides of cherry switches that are locked on the plate, the thickness of which is normally 1.5mm.
It's easy to design plates of 1.5mm thickness but I wanted to make it thicker for some reasons.

All housing parts are CNC processed, not laser-cut. :)

Thanks for your advice. I'm a beginner in photography. :)
I'll try that next time when I buy a tripod.

Those LEDs are actually INSIDE (caps for brimming with excitement) the case.  The (polycarbonate) middle allows the light to shine out!

Updated post 1 with more clarification on specs.

pretty sharp looking! I like how the middle layer of the case lights up, but I don't know how I feel about there not being sides on the case. I guess it wouldn't be an issue if you don't travel with it frequently.

You don't need to worry about the mid-layer.
That's made of polycarbonate, which is known to be 150 times stronger than tempered glass and elastic at the same time.
So I can say it is more reliable than the aluminum layer especially for traveling. :)

I ordered mine fully assembled.  What do you want to know?  Getting all of the diodes installed is a lot of work.

Update from Kailet!  He has an opportunity to get more PCBs and therefore make more keyboards!

He also alerted me to a new version of the MX Mini being made with full LED support.

If there's any interest I'd be happy to relay questions!

Apoc, I think you should totally shoot Kailet an e-mail using the info I have in my OP. :)  I paid as soon as it was clear what I wanted so that I could reserve a spot in the queue so to speak.

His previous date was May 10th for orders.  He has access to some more boards now, so I think he will be extending the time he will take orders.

I'm curious about ps2avr, I think some Korean boards use this firmware including yours.  Your version or latest version of ps2avr is publicly available somewhere else?
I don't suppose this is latest ps2avr: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ps2avr/

So I am reviving this thread because I recently acquire this and it's a truly, truly awesome keyboard. Kaliet asked me what layout I'd like and since I am familiar with Poker 2 layout, I have asked him to configure this prior to him shipping. So he has done that for the first FN layer. But I understand that there is another FN layer. This keyboard has two Fn keys, one in the Modifier beside the right ALT key and the other 1u beside the right SHIFT key. It is this second Fn layout I am trying to locate. Does anyone have any idea what it does? I have contacted Kaliet but I think he's kinda busy with travelling and work so he has yet to be able to get me the layout, so I am seeking the community's help. Appreciate.

Hey Belfong--
I have one of these as well that I bought off of someone here. The secondary FN layer can be reached by selecting FN (next to shift) + Space. You'll see the capslock & backspace lights blink twice when you switch to the FN2 layer. If you hit FN+Space again, the same lights will blink once and you will be back to the default layer.

You can see the default FN2 layout here in this link: http://blog.winkeyless.kr/9

Edit: looks like the secondary FN layer is to make the bottom mod cluster become arrow keys, right? No other special functionalities aside from that.

Yup, that's pretty much all that changes. I believe that layer can be customized as well if you want a different layout, but I haven't tried it myself. :)
