I've previously fulfilled 5 public keyboard GBs and I think anyone that has ordered a keyboard fulfilled by me can vouch for the communication and transparency throughout the GB,

I've just noticed my local vendor, without providing any notes on notion, moved Compact Ergo's (your keyboard) shipment date from Q4 2024 to Q1 2025. Considering the long Chinese New Year, the earliest in Q1 2025 would be sometime in February. Compact Ergo was limited to only 200 max. Compact Ergo's GB closing date was 30 June 2024, it means, it would take 8 months (or more) to make 200 keyboards. Based on this information, I must disagree with your statement, on your current record.

Speculations:

If you wish to claim you sold far more than you expected then customers were overcharged because your pricing was based on 200. If you wish to claim you changed the manufacturer in last minute, then you broke your quality promise to your customers. If you wish to blame the manufacturer for being too busy with other orders, then after 8 months of waiting, I have little to no interest or enthusiasm in receiving your keyboard anymore which it will put me off from participating in future GBs, including yours.

If the shipment date has not been changed from Q4 2024, then I humbly apologise to you.

Hello and thanks for your comment, I assume you are refering to prototypist? I am not sure the reasoning behind them moving it, but I assume it's because of when they will be getting their next shipping container. Compact ergo is actually ahead of schedule and will be shipping to vendors right away at the start of November. Compact ergo did not sell 200 units, it was under. 200 units was the maximum to ensure our timeline of fulfillment in Q4. After GB closing payments to the manufacturer were paid in July and will complete production at the end of this month (4 months).

Speculation responses:
We sold under 200, the cap was there to ensure timely delivery. We are using the same manufacturer that produced the prototypes. The manufacturer has no issues with timelines.

Hope this helps! I'm happy to answer any other questions or respond to any speculation!

Edit* As the NA/Worldwide vendor I plan to have compact ergo fulfillment completed in mid December!

Thank you for your response.

I was sorry to hear that less than 200 units were sold. While I've never used Alice style keyboards before, I could appreciate the 9.5° tilt of Compact Ergo that left larger gap between the left and right alpha clusters. This should provide more comfort than the traditional 12° tilt for instance. Having the function keys, arrow keys, almost all the mods, and the Num pad makes your design very practical for high intense productivity tasks indeed.

If I may, soldering requirement of the knob even for hotswap PCBs may have been a factor in sale performance plus the extra cost to purchase a plate other than the default alu. However, I'm truly eager to have it on my desk already, hence my dismay by Q1 2025 news.

I'm trying very hard to be understanding about the difficulties the recent ongoing events have introduced even though the promise date was given during these events anyway. I guess if in December my keyboard is not delivered then most likely it would be in the following February.

Compact Ergo PCB designer here. The issue is that at <200 PCB quantity, having THT components soldered by the fab is dangerous and expensive because they do it with... less-than-stellar techniques. There is also the problem of shipping PCBs with a huge encoder protruding out.

While we understand the issue, we had to make the decision. The alternative would be to offer no hotswap at all.

Hi Gondo,

Please take the following as a feedback than anything else.

No, the alternative decision should had been a switch instead of a decoder, my two cent. That cluster would have these keys namely, Home, End, PgDn, and PgUp.

Gondo already addressed that here. If there is any more Compact Ergo feedback, please use appropriate thread(s).

I'm a huge fan of having at least Beige and WoB available as in-stock on all profiles.
Preferrably with location and sub-60 childkits available.

I also agree on the statement that offering childkits _maybe some time in the future_ is a big no-no for everyone that is mostly interested in those and skew the results of your "acceptance test".
40s discord has a lot of small GBs running for all sorts of SP profiles. The general interest about DCS is there.

I guess having some sort of potential kitting with potential pricerange would help getting those on board for a Basekit now. But buing a "useless" basekit with the _hope_ that i'll _maybe_ get the childkit later on sounds even more stupid than buying a keyset to be eligeble to enter a raffle for a keyboard

Any Canadian vendor?

Check KeycapLendar for keycap GB info, including links to vendors - https://keycaplendar.firebaseapp.com/
KeycapLendar also has links to ICs and past GBs.

The Canadian vendor for this GB is Mino Keys - https://minokeys.com/products/dcs-intro-beige-and-wob
