Thunderdome Auction House: F-122 for sale
« on: Sat, 22 June 2013, 20:57:15 »
You are here in Thunderdome Auction House. One board enters, one man leaves ... with the board.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls ... auction time is here !

NOW FOR AUCTION!
The bidding starts at $120 USD, and the shipping is $40 USD for international and  $free for Canada.
The proceeds of this auction will be donated to Geekhacktown City Hall.

Item for auction:
1. 6110668, DATE 19DEC-84, so 28 years old. Perfect condition, I would say almost untouched.  Typing feel is sublime. No crack, no scuff, no paint peeling. It is amazing that it reached our days in this shape. This one is a rarity, for the nubs of the legs have the same colour as the case, not as the legs. I don't know what to say more, just enjoy the pictures.

26173-0 26175-1
26177-2 26181-3
26179-4 26183-5

THIS IS AN AUCTION: You've seen it before, you know the start bidding price and the shipment price. Just post your bid. Rules ? Common sense and the one everybody knows about in Geeckhacktown: Break the deal ... Face the wheel !.

Payment can be made via PayPal as a gift.
This auction will end at 10:00pm on Saturday 29th June 2013 TORONTO TIME - currently GMT - 4.

No need for mod, Soarer converter is the best, very easy to use and very reliable. Check this thread:

If you are selling multiples, you should grade them and let people understand the entire field.

For example, if you have 1-10, 3-9s, 1-8, 3-7s, and 1-5 for sale, then let people know what is still available and let them bid accordingly.
"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

You guys are nuts.

$125 would be a fair price for one of the lower grade ones.

There were at least a couple that looked immaculate and should bring twice that in coming auctions.

I have spent almost 3 years searching these things out - how many of you recognize how truly rare they are?

OP.....can you post a pic of all the f122s you'll be auctioning off.  I think it would help us out a little.  I remember seeing you had a few with blue or orange sub text.

I think that's it with these keyboards. There are not many left, I gave away some to my colleagues and some I traded for other Model Fs. I might have now 4 left, of which two I'm currently using and one is in a mod project. All are in good hands, they love them. Probably eBay will bring more on the market. I wanted to keep my word, that's why I donated this one to GH. It is one of the best, probably never been used. Halverson is a lucky winner.

What kind of caps are on it? Are they in 2 pieces? Do Unicomp sell replacement caps in more languages? Will ones from a Model M fit?

The keys are the same as Model M and all will interchange, except for the (spacebar) stabilizer wires.

There are significant variations in boldness and placement of legends on IBM keycaps throughout the model runs, but nothing too noticeable.

True. As you can see from this auction, there is not much interest right now on GH for these keyboards. I still can sell two more, but will be no bids, so I'll try later.

Boy, I came really close to putting in a bid, but then logic set in, and I realized that what I'm most afraid of is falling in love with it. I wouldn't be able to afford one for home and a second for work, and then what if something terrible happened to it? It's not like I could just go online and find a replacement.

I love the history and build quality of these boards, and the idea of owning one is very appealing to me. But I don't think I could really cope with the reality.

I hope they all go to those who will really appreciate and treasure them. Good luck with the remaining sales!

I was/am interested but have never participated in an auction on GH before.  I figured I could just watch and learn standard protocol on the first board and then bid on the latter ones.  As an aside, my wife had a baby on June 29th so I have been a bit distracted this week anyway :D

I was under the impression that several boards would be auctioned off one at a time, but if that is not the case I guess that's just the way it goes.
