Oh, so you think that social welfare programs only benefit African-Americans?
Nope -- I never said that Greystoke.
Must just blow your little mind to be reminded of the fact that MOST WELFARE RECIPIENTS ARE WHITE, eh?
Not really. Most welfare recipients are white and live in non-urban areas.
And a few more facts for you. Social safety net programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SNAP, and so forth, are the only reason that many older people, disabled people, veterans, and children in America are able to live.
People who are truly helpless like the elderly, children and the mentally ill should receive help -- whether it be from the local community or government, America is an affluent enough nation to do this. I think it's very sad Greystoke that for all your posing about being above the discussion the only argument you can present is that I am heartless for opposing the current welfare policy. I feel that the existing welfare safety net has become a hammock for some people. I never said all people, so you should try to calm yourself down and not be so emotional. You say I'm heartless? Well, I think the existing system encourages young men (of all races) to bring children into the world, and then leave the child and the mother. That's brainless.
I can show you statistics that show that fatherlessness has been a problem for nearly every racial group, but that it has hit Latino and Blacks especially hard.
You think that progressive policies like these are somehow cheating all you hard-working, virtuous Republicans of your money?
I'm a Libertarian, actually. I vote Republican because the Libertarian candidate is too crazy (free and open borders, woo!) and has no chance of winning. As for my money, and how Progressives decide to use it -- I wouldn't mind them taking my money if they only used it well. Instead, their efforts actually hurt the people they're supposed to be helping. Stick around as long as I have Greystoke, and you start to realize that the problems of today look eerily like yesterdays solutions.
Wake up and look around you. Right-wing majority states, like most of the Old South, receive MORE welfare dollars than they ever pay into the system.
That's an interesting claim -- I wonder if it's true. Regardless, I think it would benefit everyone (of all races) if the receipt of welfare benefits to able-bodied people continued to require that find work within a certain time frame. But President Obama is gutting that work requirement.
Your point of view represents a bitter minority of Americans, people who would only be satisfied were we to return to the bad old days of debtor prisons, poorhouses, and child labor.
You're being very, very emotional about this Greystoke. But follow his logic people: anyone who suggests that we re-evaluate the welfare system is someone who wants to see the return of debtor prisons and child labor. That's a laughably stupid argument. Progressives are stupid because they can't own up to the fact that their policies not only don't work, they hurt their intended beneficiaries.
As for police, it's a tough job and I never interface with police except when I'm getting a parking infraction in NYC. To me, they're basically tax collectors. Are all of them corrupt and evil? No. I don't really like to be bossed around by anyone, including police. Do I think authoritarian-oriented, peaked-in-high-school type people are drawn to the career? Maybe. I don't think they hunt minorities, as described by some. I would make their union illegal so that officers who are corrupt or inept can be fired, and I would make cops who break laws face stiffer penalties. I would keep stop and frisk in NYC because it has demonstrably saved the lives of young men over the last few years.
