Hey guys I have a Ducky Shine 2 with mx blues and don't like the feel of cherry stablisers (especially the left shift). I'm planning on buying another keyboard with mx browns (either Filco or Ducky (again)) and would like to know if cherry stabilizers feel "better" when using brown switches? Thanks (if not then Filco is my best bet as costar seems like it is the way to go)

Different people like different stabilizers

You may like cherry stabilized browns, others may like costar stabilized browns....

Some people feel that Cherry stabilisers are mushy regardless of the switch they are using.

I would guess that if you have stiffer switches e.g. MX blacks, then the stabilisers might not feel quite so mush as you would be habitually using more force to press the keys and thus bypass the point of mushiness.

Or something.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Cherry stabilizers are mushy, they will generally feel the same throughout

Thank you both. I guess I'm gonna buy a Filco. Can't stand to game with the left shift key, doesn't feel right.

Good choice, Filco is a great board, and uses costar stabalizers

It's pretty much what's stopping me from buying a Ducky.  Even though people tell me I can do the clip mod but I don't feel like de-soldering every single switches.

Hmm, I never had my hands on a plate mounted Cherry stabilizer, isn't it possible to get some lube in there with a syringe or something similar? It's hard to tell for me from just looking at images.

You only need to desolder 1 switch to remove the particular stabilizer. That and you don't need to clip mod this year's Ducky. They've already been clipped.

You can pop the wire out to lube the points it makes contact with the plastic even on plate mount without taking the switch out. Just pop one side up at a time, and pull it out. There is just enough play when you torque it to manage it. Be patient when putting it back in place, it can be somewhat irritating. If it's PCB mount with a plate on top, you should have much clearer access to the points where the wire clips into the plastic. Just do one side at a time as well to keep it from coming totally apart and falling inside.
Also plate mount don't (or shouldn't at least) make any contact with the PCB underneath so they really shouldn't have any 'mushy' feeling anyway. It's the little 'shocks' on the bottom of the PCB mount variety that give it the 'mushy' feeling.

Clipped Cherry is the best Cherry

and it's a million times better than Costar which is my second favorite stabilizer.

Cherry was ok for me but costar felt slightly better for me.

I never got a chance to try clipped cherrys

Really?  So just the switch the stabilizer corresponds to?  Because I'm thinking to get a Poker and if that's the case it's only 6 switches to de-solder.

And sweet it's a good thing that the manufactures start to catching on to the clip mod, all future keyboards should come default like that.  :D

Can any of you explain why Clipped Cherry's don't go into mass produced boards?  They offer strengths from both stabilizer types - just not sure if they are more fragile that could spook OEM's.

Oh so sorry I didn't read :(...

Oh wow...  Do any of you know which Ducky's get the new mod?   I'm assuming it's only the Zero's and S3's?
