SimRacing?
« on: Wed, 04 February 2015, 18:44:51 »
So who does it? On what platform?  With what game?  Any specific hardware?

I just started the shift from the more arcade stuff like GT and NFS.  I'm running iRacing with a fanatec gt3rs wheel and csr elite pedals.  I want to get into pCars and assetto corsa, too, but I know the online action in them aren't as good unless you host a league.  So yeah, what do you do/want to do?

Maybe we can get a league started someday if there are enough of us.

Used to play RFactor on PC and with a Logitech G25 Wheel.

Was hard core into time trials and online tournaments and such.

Been out of the loop for a couple of years though.

Closest I play to sim racing I think would be GT5/6. I've played a bit with Dirt3[on pc] and it was great fun.
I have a racing chair I built around a DFGT.
I did try live for speed for about a week but just never stayed with it. I've kind of glanced at iRacing but I'm not sure it's for me. I don't really play online or MP.

I just play racing games more casually so my skills are good enough for SP and the AI present in the games.

I used to play iRacing quite a bit and really loved it. I just don't have the time to devote to it any more but it's pretty authentic.

This is exactly my setup! I haven't used it in a while because my desk is all wobbly now and I need to make some kind of mount for the pedals, but this paired with Assetto Corsa is so damn amazing! I know the online portion of AC is not very robust or polished yet, but I think they have the best car physics & sound out there, and it's damn pretty to boot. I cannot wait for the Dream Pack with the laser-scanned Nurburgring-Nordschleife track & the GT-R!

Shift, not shift 2, but I'm not surprised you'd be the one to say that.

Hated Shift, physics made so little sense to me and the tracks were terrible.. not played the 2nd as it was more 'arcadie' but I'm down for GT6! Competed in an online endurance series in that ^^

To be fair, there were just outright cars I couldn't drive in shift because of physics issues.  It has a whiff of that old school (talking OG playstation) attitude of godzilla gt-r is best at everything right?

What little I played of forza and gt lately was kinda sorta really easy, but that's also based on hoping in a car and doing a race and not running a career game.

I'm an absolute car enthusiast. I'm thinking about getting into sim racing alot.
But I'm just too scared of buying expensive equipment, without even knowing if I really like it and if I would stick with it.

I started with controller for the first month or so to see if I was really wanting to get into it before putting the money down for wheel/pedals.  I think after a week, I wanted something better than what the controller could provide and knew I'd be in it for the long haul, so can't hurt to try with something small first.

Or keep an eye on ebay and pick up a used dfgt or g25/27 cheap and go from there.

Doesn't really count, but I used to love the older Forza games before they went **** and turned arcadey.

A friend of mine has Oculus Rift hooked up to a PC with a Brands Hatch loop, and that is seriously awesome. He's got the wheel and pedals set up, along with speakers all round and vibrations set up. It's ace.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

agreed, i really enjoyed Forza 2, but from 3 to current it feels like NFS

I say the same thing about GT, i really like all of them up until 4 but 5 and 6 have been subpar for GT quality

Really? That's unfortunate. I played GT early on, but stopped once I got rid of my PS2.

I would be more rapidly interested if I could hook my ps3 up to my monitor (only displayport on the RoG swift).  Right now I don't have anything to secure my pedal/wheel to use it where my ps3 is now.

IMO GT6 is the best racing game ever made. I qualify that by saying that things like iRacing isn't a game, it's more of a professional simulator... Lol

I enjoy playing Assetto Corsa, it's alot of fun. I've been meaning to get into iRacing, but I need a better wheel and pedals.

The Bathurst Quick Race in GT6 is properly fun, the penalty system sometimes ****s you, but if your good enough with the car and can learn the track you can make up a lot of lost time and have a lot of fun battling.

Just done 3 races;
>started 9th finished 2nd, could have taken the lead had I not been shoved onto the grass when trying a move up the main straight and made a mistake on the last lap which meant I couldn't get the time back.
>started 12th finished 2nd, same guy who won the previous race took it, he started on pole how ever.
>started 5th, got to 3rd out of the second corner only to be taken out by the over-defensive driving of the guy in 2nd, demoted me (due to collision penalty) to 8th. Managed to battle my way back to 4th and then on the last lap has a proper charge at 3rd place guy, managed to send a dummy into the last corner and pipped him up the inside to claim 3rd. The guy who won the other two races also won this one, from pole again..

It's awesome, though I've yet to start anywhere high than 5th on the grid... and T1 and T2 can be a bit chaotic haha

Nice lap, I never really got much into the X cars until GT6... and even then they are just super silly lol have you tried playing with the x2014 cars much?

I should mention the race I posted, I'm in the green Bentley and using a controller lol
