Cherry MX Red vs Blue for School
« on: Fri, 21 August 2015, 06:23:09 »
Hey there!

I currently own a Steelseries 6gv2, and I am planning to buy a poker ii from qtan. I will probably be using this for schoolwork, and some gaming of CS:GO. Would you recommend me Red or Blue? Thanks. :D

If you plan to use it in class, then DEFINITELY red(unless you want to piss off everyone who is studying with you). Although, it might be bit clumsy to type a lot on reds, as they are soft to press, so typo chance increases greatly.

Reds or Blues?

Clears. Tactility of Blues, silence of Reds.

Heh, I'd say reds aren't too silent in reality, unless you can avoid bottoming out such light switch.

@Op: Any reason why reds and blues? Blacks would be sneakiest and easier to type on.

I think red suits you better at school because of its silenceness, but typo is a problem while it is linear switch. Why not try brown or clear?

between the two, i'd recommend reds with springs swapped to something heavier.

otherwise, blacks or clears with springs swapped to something lighter (and lubed) haha

I currently own a 6GV2 with blacks, not a big fan of it. I want to try something new as well!

I want clears too, but qtan doesn't sell them. I tried clears once and I fell in love, but it's hard for me to get here in Hong Kong. Any other sites for the Poker II or Pok3r with clears?

Clears will be as heavy if not slightly more than blacks.

I thought the Poker was plate mounted? And how would you buy clear springs?

If you're playing CS:GO, reds
If you are bringing your KB to class, reds
If you have roommates, reds

If you want linear just get a cheap rubberdome keyboard. Same experience for 1/3 the price.

If you go with blues, Amazon sell ear plugs for cheap. Hand them to people with weak sensitive ears and go on with your typing.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

I don't know how you type but I don't summon a rock band when I type with blues.

Blues in a classroom setting would be about as polite as continually scrunching a crinkly plastic bag. You're going to piss off the whole class, and the teacher.

Get reds or browns if you have to go MX. Though if you're really in a classroom setting, it might be better off to just stick with rubber domes or a laptop keyboard. Even non-clicky MX switches are fairly loud in a tightly packed space. If you do go MX, at least throw o-rings on.

Yeah to be honest, blue in a classroom would be too much.  Even red is boarderline risky.

As much as I love mechanical keyboard but using it in a place with such high density might be tricky.

If you really want a mechanical for school.  I'd say maybe try matias quiet switch or topre.

But out of the two choices you listed, go red.

Buy whatever keyboard you want, then leave it at home and bring a paper notebook to class.

Less potential distraction that way, both for yourself and others.

Depends on how and whee you are going to use it (the keyboard).

If you are actually going to use it in class to take notes while everyone else is trying to listen, then definitely not blues.  Reds, perhaps, with O-rings to dampen the bottom out sound.

Or a silenced HHKB, which I'm surprised demik didn't suggest.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
