I'd like to have an Ergodox keyboard. I'd like to
- add trackpoint
- be able to tune it in ways that I don't know now. (Maybe I'll find trackpoint not comfortable or I'll change my preferences in future.)
I can buy parts for the old one at Falbatech (and I can print some other parts). I can buy the Infinity Ergodox on Massdrop. And I'd like to decide which one would be better. It does not seem I need any improvement introduced in Infinity Ergodox. I don't need the LED display. I don't care about cable that connects the halves. I don't care about internals until it affects opportunities for tuning. And I don't care about USB 3 for keyboards. Which seems to be the main point there.
For the old Ergodox, there is a TMK firmware which
seems to support trackpoint. The Infinity Ergodox, however, uses different firmware (because of significantly different CPU architecture). Although TMK has been ported for Infinity Ergodox, there might be some practical issues with trackpoint. For example, I am not sure if it will be easy to wire it to the CPU. This suggests buying the old Ergodox.
However, Infinity Ergodox might be the future for tuning. That is, I am afraid that new tuning opportunities will there be for Infinity Ergodox rather that for the old Ergodox. This suggests me buying the new Ergodox.
What are your opinions? Do I miss something? Do I miss some potential issues or potential advantages of one of variants?
