Thinking about getting a board for work...Leopolds?
« on: Sat, 26 January 2013, 12:04:21 »
Hey guys, so I have a ducky 9008g2, and it has blues in it so I figure it will be too annoying for my fellow employees. But, since I am addicted to mechanical keyboards I don't think I can be typing on rubber dome all day, so I was thinking about trying mx red switches (already had browns...loved them but want to try new switches you know?). Any who, I was looking at different TKL boards and this leopold http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rrab was looking pretty sexy. How are leopolds? My first board was a filco, and I am looking for something with the same quality, so hopefully costar stabilizers etc etc. So does anyone know the quality of these boards? How they feel?

As long as you don't plan getting a full set of replacement keys, you should go for it. Leopolds are inexpensive and solidly built. However, they don't have Costar stabilizers -- something that doesn't bother me.

Other option with Costar build / stabilizers that is (imo) of equal quality to a filco would be a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

I have head Quickfire's are the same quality, and even the same thing as a filco...What is the truth in this? Are they really the same board? Also, I don't know if i want one because of their ugly as sin key caps, I don't want to have to buy replacements for a keyboard I may only be using as work you know? But then again it would get a lot of use...I guess I just want to know more about the board, I have heard they are made in the same factory as filcos, that they are basically the same board as filcos, can someone tell me what the actual differences are?

I love my Leopold and it is my work keyboard.  As has been mentioned it has different stabilizers.  As for quality I consider it top-notch.

Quickfire Rapid supposedly weighs a little bit less (thinner pcb, iirc) and has a detachable usb cable (filco's is fixed). Keycaps are actually a little better feeling than filco, imo, but the font is fugly.

I'd buy the Rapid OVER a filco if they were the same price, tbh. Just my personal preference.

I'm quite satisfied with my Leopold. Good quality for a good price. They have Cherry style stabilizers, as has been mentioned, but that is no problem for me. With clear switches I can't really feel any difference between the stabilized keys and the normal ones.

I have Cherry Corp. 2-shot ABS keys on mine and it looks fantastic.
