SP Standard Double Shot Set
« on: Wed, 23 January 2013, 11:10:16 »
I know this forum uses SP quite often for group buys, so could someone give me some insight on the quality of these double shots? Which profile are they?

They are cherry like profile.  Close but not exact.

Thanks for the reply.

What would you say about the quality and feel compared to regular ABS?

FWIW I have "thick" cherry doubleshots and I don't notice a difference.  Maybe because I'm using MX blacks?

There is a small difference when I type with blue or browns. I personally prefer cherry thickness over anything else.

Most people around here prefer the thicker Cherry keys, or think they do anyway.  For tactile switches like browns and blues I actually prefer the thinner SP caps.  For reds I like the thick vintage Cherries.

I love my thick cherry compared to SP DS. I love the look of my graphite and CC&G set, but my plain old white on black Cherry DS get the most use since they are, IMO, the best cap for the money and are a dream to type on.

And where does a newb like me find white on black cherry DS like that?

I think SP sells some on their site. At least they were advertised as "Original Cherry DS's".

Original Cherry Lasered

I have a few sets and like them.  They are thick Cherry profile, with nicely lasered legends.  Not everyone shares my affinity for them, but they are only $18 for the alphanumeric set.  I use them to replace OEM keycaps immediately upon arrival.

They are plentiful in the classifieds or on ebay.  I sold a bunch of them a while back for $25-$40 depending on shine and the particulars of the set.  Note that depending on the source keyboard, some of the keys have wacky profiles (in particular the navcluster keys -- Del, End, PgDn, etc.)  And of course you'll need a moogle to make them fit a standard 1.25x modifier layout.

I got mine from lysol, but I doubt he'd have any more to sell. They are acutally kinda easy to find and cheap if you don't mind a bit of shine. They don't always require a moogle, but most of them will. Mine had DS 1.25 controls and alts but cherry thick pad printed windows and menu keys
