Hi, I am now destined to be poor forever....
« on: Sat, 25 May 2013, 12:09:01 »
Hi from Scotland. So, after abandoning my beloved IBMs in 2005 for a macro keyboard, my world has come full-circle. and now want to get back to the click I loved so well. And then found that the UK is almost completely starved of blue switches except in Razer Blackwidows and £130 Filcos. Plus unlike my scrappy G15s and IBMs I can't swap to dvorak layouts without a keycap set? Ah well, I can touch-type well enough, but I never really got the joys of blank keys, because although my fingers know where the keys are, I don't, and as soon as I am asked to press just one key, I instantly have no clue where it is :). TKL? why would anyone want to.... really? yes, that makes total sense, want one!

Still, that HPE 87 looks good. Not in stock with blues? Damn. Ok, refund.
Aha, found the QFR rapid with brown switches for sale, that will be as good for a first step. Accidental listing by your boss who says its really black switches? Oh, ok. refund.
Qpad MK-85 with blues? Well, its not TKL but its got macros, and its cheap. It's almost like weaning myself off the G15 slowly without resorting to G13 or Naga for the macro habit. Plus I get to play with blues and see if my next (Next already?) will be blues, browns, greens or a non tactile step?

But I still want a TKL............ and Dvorak keycaps......And now I want to start making keycaps..... Tardis or Sniper target key first? hmm......

So as you see,  poor forever.

Yes, I fear I have. Still, what a great community, nothing like being mad in good company.

Hey Scotsman, I'm from northern England so not too far. How about the quickfire rapid with cherry blues? About £70 here. Get away from them horrible macro keyboards, ugh I hate the logitech G series keyboards, everyone bums them to death.

Well, the North of England is about 350-400 miles from me, so mail order is probably what I am stuck with. Where is selling the QFR blue? Scan does list the brown but for 75 plus 15 postage. For that price, I think the Filco would be a better bet for the extra 36.

I would agree the G15 is a pretty boring uninspiring thing to type on, but as I end up renaming stacks of files or other repeat tasks, I will keep macros active somewhere. The Naga or a cheap G13 would do the job. At least the qpad doesn't have macro keys, so its going in the right direction. Plus it seems the Mark 1 G15 is now fetching 40 quid on the bay, I have a pair of the damn things. I may wring one of the new rapid stealths from Uncle sam once I decide what switches to try next. Cheers to Yorkshire, I know the place a little. My sister spent a few years in Stonegate, York, and I worked in Bradford for a short while.

Hi Ray, I only mean poor in the sense of having no money and having to plan my next keyboard purchases by when I get paid next. Or by perhaps breaking into neighbours homes to steal their TVs to sell to feed the habit :)

I am sure a tasteful guide skipping most of the crime parts would work. For example: If you want to get yourself a decent Topre, you will need to be looking for at least a pair of 50 inch flatscreens and perhaps a bluray burner. But if you want something with MX then anything over 32 inch screens would work?
