REALLY intrigued by blues.
« on: Tue, 20 August 2013, 08:56:39 »
i'm currently a red guy (hint - sig), but i'm starting to contemplate blues, it's seems to me they're way better for typing.

i have to say i'm mainly a gamer, had the blackwidow tournament edition for like 2 days in the past, but i returned it, i didn't really like the switches. i'm starting to question myself now, maybe i just didn't give it the necessary time, i was using blacks as my daily driver back then.

at the moment, i'm using a red QFR at home and a full sized red filco at work, wondering, whether i should buy a cheap BW tournament again and give it a proper chance, what do you guys think? especially those gaming with blues in mostly FPS games (BF3, etc)...

thanks :)

Not sure what the price is in your part of the world but the CM QFR with blues can be had fairly cheaply in the USA.

Also the stock keys vs aftermarket keys will also change the feel.

i can't get a QFR with blues in slovakia AT ALL. this is a really crappy market with mech boards here, i have to say. the only QFR available here is with blacks, i could try austria or other neighbouring countries, if they ship to slovakia, as i speak pretty good german. pretty much the only board with blues for a reasonable price i can get here is a blackwidow, be it the full or tenkeyless. dayum.

you should try at some vendors on this forum that are from europe they might have what you need, otherwise blacwidow is not a good keyboard, bad quality and the synapse sistem is just bad

Doesn't Razer use modded Blues? Instead of the usual 50g actuation force needed, they use a 'gamers' Blue of 45g....or some crap like that. I think the 45g Blues are used for the BWU 2013, not sure about the others though. BTW, any other brands available other than Razer?

Blues are great for typing and ok for gaming.
You could try to just buy some blue switches off a website like WASD and put them in one of your current boards. That way you could try them out and own a blue switch board instead of a red switch board.
Do yourself a favor and don't get a Razer board.

I think that with blues, you need them on the right board, and yes, there is an adjustment period.

Until I got my Das with blues, I was sure I wouldn't like them. I didn't like how they felt when I tried them out on a BlackWidow in a store, I didn't like any clicky switch that I'd owned (of either ALPS or buckling spring type), I didn't like the sound of the blue switches in videos...if it weren't for coming across this keyboard for next to nothing in a thift store, I doubt I'd have ever given blues much of a chance. But now that I have it and am using it, I actually rather like them. I haven't had much gaming time so far since getting them, but so far, they don't seem half bad for the purpose-- and the click does make typing more satisfying, though I'm not sure yet if it's actually any faster or easier for me to be typing on the blues than on blacks.

So yeah, I would say that blues are certainly worth a try. Even if you're looking for something cheap with them, though, surely you can do better than a Razer...

Hi

And what about a kbt? You can buy them in european shops, for example

http://kbtrace.com

The pure pro 60% comes in many different layouts  :D and you can choose it with blue switches.

I've never heard that one before...
Damn, I may be mistaken, I do recall discussing this (that Cherry Blue on the BWU 2013 felt lighter) and I do recall someone talking about this, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find that thread anymore....not here, in another forum. Don't know if it was some weird dream I had while I was taking some cough meds......

Well I know just clicking the arrow keys that are exposed on the razer that I saw at the local store the blues did feel and sound different. But I figured it was more due to keycap, plate etc.

I've read a few times that the blues in a BWU feel different to those in other boards.

If you do a lot of double-tapping, you might have a problem adjusting to the blues as the release point is above the actuation point, so you need to let the key most of the way up before you can tap again.

Apart from that I like my blues.  I am alternating between reds and BS atm, and actually missing the blues.

I have a BWU here and according to razer, the blues in it are 45g instead of 50g as usual.

I guess that you just have to get used to double tap just when you feel the bump  ;D

No, not when you feel the bump.  Whe you feel the bump is when the key press occurs, then you have to lift the key up somewhat above the bump height before you can press it down again.

With other MX switches you can hover the switch just above the activation point and press it just below, with MX blues you cannot.

BLues are th bets no doubt, but it really depends on taste, I know the noise can get annoying for some (OR those around them), nonetheless, they are my fav.

guys, does anyone have any ideas about the manufactorer of the HPE chinese keyboards? from the pictures, they certainly look like a filco clone, i was wondering, whether they are made by costar or not. i guess not, since they're so cheap, but i'd love to know anyway. :)

So, I was right and it wasn't some med induced dream? I'm just a newb but while trying out the BWU, it did feel lighter than those on my Ducky and CM, leading to a discussion in the other forum.....which for the life of me, I cannot find anymore! I recall someone posting a link to this, and some saying that as usual, Razer was spinning it like they'd reinvented the wheel.

no this is not true. I've taken apart a BWU and they are the same springs you get with any other blue switch, it probably feels lighter because of the construction and caps

I think there's been some mix up concerning BWU and the Stealth Ed, seems the latter uses Brown, not Blue. I'll go to the shol again and see if I had missed the 'Stealth' moniker....

Dude, I have a couple of Browns, so yeah, I've felt it. Yes, I tired out the Stealth at the shop, as well as the BWU 2013 (with Blues), and although the Blue had a more pronounce actuation point, it still felt a little light.....can't say for sure w/o doing a side-by-side comparison with a CM/Ducky/Filco Blue. Yes, the Blue was clicky, kind of hard to hear clearly in an open store area with peeps walking around chatting, the music blasting from a nearby speaker corner didn't help either.

i can't get a QFR with blues in slovakia AT ALL.
I don't think that QFR exists in any ISO layout with any other switch than Black or Red.

The QuickFire TK is available with Blues or Browns in Sweden, though, with "Nordic" ISO layout. The price is only a bit more than for the QFR. Much cheaper than any Ducky, for instance.

They're my favorite switch next to Topre
