How a Row-Column Matrix Works
« on: Mon, 16 September 2013, 08:51:02 »
I can't embed it here because it's a flash object, but check out the animation on this page. It will help you understand how it works on a keyboard. http://www.howstuffworks.com/lcd4.htm

It's like Battleship. B5 = Row B Column 5.

Thought this might be useful for someone getting into keyboard making.

In xwhatsit's beamspring usb thread, he does a good job of both showing his work and explaining what he did.  I think this and that thread would be excellent primers for creating a custom controller

This one is my favorite.

I made a gif to show high-Z states and pull-up resistors in a matrix: see my sig. I'm open to input about how to improve it.
A better example of how your keyboard works:

It's expandable and ~25 seconds long.
