Trying to track down a horse keycap
« on: Sat, 12 July 2014, 14:27:25 »
Hey guys, been lurking here a while, but I ran across a keycap here I've gotta get some more info on. The keycap is pictured here and I found it on an old thread

I messaged nubbinator about it and he couldn't seem to recall where he picked it up from, possibly an old group buy on here. Figured I'd make a post to see if this horse keycap was familiar to anyone, or how I could go about obtaining one.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

It's rare as a unicorn....

I'd ask eth0s, he seems to be quite a unicorn-friendly GHer and may know more about this cap due to his interest.

Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I have both of those! They came from a PBT dyesub Group Buy for RGB mods. Now to find the actual thread....

Success!

They were made by SP and as Halverson said, they came from a PBT RGB group buy that Boost ran back in 2012 (details here).

Ah darn, seems this key will continue to be elusive to me then. Thanks for the info so fast though, you guys are awesome!

Is it possible to get single custom keycaps from SP or somewhere similar?

I will obtain this one way or another!

Once you have enough posts, you can try the classifieds.

Also, I think these were found in some of SP's crap bags. There may be a bit more floating around than just the GB ones.

You have to have a post count of 25 and to have been here for 2 months to start a classifieds thread.
Good luck finding one!

Speaking of boost... where the hell did he go? :(

I thought the same thing when I read this thread.

He was last active today, and last post was less than a week ago.  I guess he just isn't around as much as he used to be.  As is the case for so many of the olden GH.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

They are most definitely horses/ponies.  I just added a little something to my caps to make them look like unicorns.

So the keys in the OP have unicorns (even though they were formerly horses).
