Just to pitch in with a little content....
My Topre HiPro is definitely a capable gaming board. Testing it beside a board with Browns and Blues reveals no difference in performance whatsoever. There's a sense that the Cherries have a more 'intuitive' feel to them (whatever that means), but really, there's nothing between the types of switch.
I've also been testing the HiPro against the Logitech G910 recently (the Romer is the marginally better gaming switch by the way). It's a fairly balanced comparison given that both have unusual keycaps. The rumour is that the spherical caps on the HiPro are less suited to gaming that cylindricals. I've found the exact opposite to be true. I love the HiPro's caps for gaming. Similarly, the G910 sports 'unique' caps that claim to make gaming easier. After a month of gaming and typing on the G910, I can reveal that this is a load of marketing nonsense. The Romer switch is where the Logitech's secret lies. The caps just get in the way of typing.
So, Topre switches are perfectly capable for gaming, but like many others, I'd say that you should invest in a Realforce if you work as much as you play. Otherwise, Blues, Browns and Reds will serve you just as well.
One final thing: For build quality, the Realforce board is noticeably better made than my beloved Filcos, and in a different league to the likes of Corsair and Logitech (both good board manufacturers). I'm not even going to discuss Razer ;-)
