Hey there GH :-)

Yesterday i had some time to play around with the greenstuff, and decided to try sculpt a key or two...and...it is hard without proper tools :-P the result is as follows:

I would like some opinions on this as the concept of making DIY keys seems fun and i would like to continue...should i?:-P

I like the design on the left, looks like a rotting pumpkin.

Thanks Man! This is what I was aiming for :) Thought I missed the look of rotten pumpkin by a mile :) Great to hear someone likes it :) Unfortunate thing is that it was a test keycap, thus I used the rubber dome instead of sacrificing an MX key :( but it fits a friends Dell RD keyboard so he recieved it :P

Hey, now you have another chance to get the cap even closer to your ideal look of a rotting pumpkin (interesting and unusual subject to sculpt on a key, gg @ creativity). Hopefully v2 is even better.

The one on the right looks like E.T. Op said that both of these were test caps, he used keys off of a rubber dome board.

Just to clear things out - Pumpkin is done on a RD keycap :) but the "E.T" as you called it is alps (my POS macro board uses ALPS keycaps on a slider, and as there is next to none novelty caps for ALPS i decided to make my own) :)

Thank you guys for all the good words :) This is what gives you wings to learn and produce more stuff :) When I get some time later this week I will try to sculpt Rotten Pumpkin 2.0 on an MX cap :)

Thank You :)

I say if you like it keep going.  :)  The rabbit hole goes pretty damn far.

I'd say so, but then again, I am a huge Garth Ennis fan.

Bumping to check interest, totally forgot about this thread :P

Could someone give me some info on how the last caps looks and if i am heading the right way? This would be much appreciated. I really want to go back into sculpting caps for fun :)

For the no MX love problem came a solution - I've recently recieved a crapton of POS caps and i am ready to use them for experiments :P

Personally I prefer pumpkin V1 as V2 looks a bit sharp to actually press, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

You enjoy making them and obviously have some talent so I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next :)

Sadly the latest one is the first with MX cap :(
There will be other try's with both Alps and MX.
I won't cast until I am satisfied with what I sculpted :P

Regarding your designs:

Too much detail doesn't work on such a small area.

@QuincyJones - Thank you, I realised this after the last design. It is true that adding in too much detail distracts the eye too much. :)

Here is one I did yesterday:

It is hard to keep the gosh darn Green Stuff straight edged.....I will need to start working in layers and wait in between them for the previous layer to cure....otherwise the whole sculpt is starting to move around like crazy.
