Easy...find good song (via radio or whatever), download (single song, not album, not entire artist's collection), eventually if I feel like it it ends up as Song of the Week. In order to do that I've gotta find a YouTube video, original music video preferred, so if it ends up being weird I don't even know about it until I've already chosen the song as SoTW.

I screwed up, I had meant to do a song for each day this week, all ZZ Top, since I'm seeing them tomorrow (Friday evening), but I forgot. Oops.

I always said I wanted my first concert to be ZZ Top...and at the age of 20 it finally happened.

That was one hell of a show. Singing along to Gimme All Your Lovin, Sharp Dressed Man, Tush, Viva Las Vegas, Legs, Cheap Sunglasses and more...along with the vast majority of the crowd...highlight of my year.

Mind you, my ears are still ringing several hours later...guess that's a sign they did it well

Yeah, I don't listen to much contemporary bands.

One reason why I'd never go to a music concert is because of the noise. My ears sometimes ring even without lots of noise (you know, sometimes you'll be doing what ever, and then one of your ears will start to get a high-pitched ring, and then slowly subside). But there's other noises not just ringing, I get almost what sounds like a hard drive in my ears when it's really quiet at night. Oh no! I have deskstaritus!

I'd rather interpret it as a sign to pick up some musician's earplugs (ER-20s or whatever). Your hearing will thank you. With the level commonly found at concerts, this really is pretty much mandatory.

Perhaps...but since the majority of touring bands don't remotely interest me, I'm not exactly a big concert-goer lol.

I know some people who went to a Sunn O))) concert, and described to me how the noise of the bands concerts was such that they had to wear earplugs and feel the music as opposed to listening to it outright.

I somewhat regret that when I was younger, I did not attend the Nana Mouskouri concerts when she visited my city. But that was a period when she was mostly singing current pop favorites, and I was mainly a fan of her earlier Hadjidakis material, so I would probably have regretted paying $50 or whatever for a ticket at that time as a struggling student.

It's not the same. And it's fun. Maybe you should try it.

Similarly, I never thought I would like the theatre, but I've been a few times in recent years, and it is remarkably entertaining in a way that TV and cinema can't replicate. And there are lots of pretty, scantily clad actresses you get to see in the flesh. I saw The Producers at the theatre, before they remade the film. Never had so much fun. When the goose-stepping Nazi soldiers came on stage and they lowered mirrors so the audience got an overhead view of the Busby Berkeley style display, I nearly wet myself laughing.

Ringing ears is invariably a sign of permanent ear damage. The ringing goes away, but the damage doesn't. Eventually the ringing won't go away, and you have tinnitus.


Julianne Moore has a fantastic monologue about ears ringing in Children of Men after Clive is nearly blown up.

"You hear that ringing in your ears? That 'eeeee'?
That's your ear cells dying. You'll never be able to hear that frequency again. Enjoy it while you can."

It's not literally true, but a little inaccuracy saves a lot of explanation.

It's one concert. The only one I've been to in my life. I'm sure my hearing is fine (based on the fact that it's completely back to normal as far as I can tell).

There are people who do much, much worse things to their ears - Apple earbuds with the volume up as an example.

I went to a John Mayer concert recently and decided to wear earplugs.  The best concert decision I have ever made.  The music was much clearer and my ears felt fine after the show.

Many Years past, after a couple of drinks, my friend had the bright idea of going to watch an up-coming band in another pub. Everyone was quiet standing by the stage, the band entered and quickly started playing. In under one minute we were outside the pub cursing all people inside. Our faces and hair were soaked with spittle because those Punk-rockers' dance craze was to jump up and down while spitting at each other.

After that experience, I attended very few live shows/concerts/theatres etcetera etcetera. No doubt some are excellent/entertaining with lots of atmosphere, but just not pour moi.

When they have a hearing aid that's equalized for 20-20,000 Hz at +/- 1dB, they just MIGHT be worthy of consideration.

I'm not going to sacrifice linearity for amplitude. I'm 20-13,500 at +/- 1dB and 17,000-23,000 Hz +/-3 db according to my hearing specialist. The gap (hearing loss) from 13.5 to 17K is 100% caused by more than a decade of live music three times a week WITH EARPLUGS.

My wife did telephone customer support for the same decade, and she can't hear from her left ear. What a pair we make. What?

Hearing aids only amplify sound waves to the already lessened stereo cilia in your (cochlea?) So, it's not really a great way to fix anything. It's like a crutch, sure it'll help you walk, but won't fix your stride!

Oh... and there can be different issues for hearing loss, your tympanum could be damaged a bit -- swimming can do that, so, a less flexible tympanum disallows you to hear (usually) higher frequencies. They call that the mosquito ring or whatever, mosquitos actually have a lower pitch ring to their wings. Your ossicles also could be damaged, if that happens... good luck fixing tiny bones.
