They’re not the 80’s tanks I grew up on, but that’s because they’re modern sized. I feel that there is more value in them than what MK is charging. The case is more plastic tabs than screws, so I would fear opening one up, but I’m not planning on doing that ever. Otherwise, yes, good stuff. A weird phenomena: my TKL is dead silent (other than blue click n’ key clack). Absolutely zero resonance on the steel plate. Y’all call it “ping”, correct? Meanwhile my numpad pings, and my 1800 style (FC980M) piiiiiiiiiiings. But, I am comparing to their completely dead TKL and not your average mechanical. Some salt grains to be shared, for sure.
I’ve grown to love the FC980 layout while simultaneously hating the one unit sized 0 key. At some point in my lifetime, my mom had a Compaq that came with the rebranded Cherry board that it’s based on, so, I kind of was aware going in. Hence why I also bought the TKL + Numpad combo at the same time, just in case. I can’t speak on the regular 104-key they have on offer since replacing my full sized board was part of the conquest.
I did replace them, but their new doubleshot pbt keycaps are very good. Not better nor worse than OG Cherry/GMK, but different and obviously the legends are smaller as well.
For the MAC users, there’s a dipswitch to flip flop the WIN key. *warning to those said mac users, most keycap sets are going to leave you flummoxed thanks to the Leopold function key....you’ll know what I mean if and when the time comes. :0 Also, you’ll lose media keys in Mojave, but mute and volume are randomly still available under the function layer. This is, of course, if you’re not using karibiner and whatnot.
For the Capslock Ctrl flip floppers, there’s not only a dipswitch, but also provided keycaps.
For the gamers, a winkey lockout dipswitch.
Concerning the stabilizers, there is nothing bad about them I can think of. I presumed that they’re Cherry and not some other make mixed with Cherry switches ala some other boards out there. With stock caps, everything feels the same. With GMK and SP caps, some of the stabilized modifiers feel “tight”, if that makes sense. Brown sandpaper times two. But I like those modifiers to not be loosey goosey, so, I’m cool with that.
Concerning the browns, I do have them on one of the boards and they feel like browns to me.
I wish I could say more. But, I’m “captain bottoms out”, and not the one you should trust on these sort of things.
I’m losing steam on this novella, but if you have any specific questions, feel free to hit me up.
