Huge Stock of Non-Mechanical Keyboards. Worth Salvaging?
« on: Thu, 27 June 2019, 22:05:40 »
I have been slowly amassing a huge number of non-mechanical keyboards from a dumpster which keeps on giving.

Is there any use in these keyboards to the members of this forum?
Currently I'm sitting on over 40 keyboards, some with only a couple of missing keycaps.

I also have a huge number of laptop keyboards as well.

Is there something which you may find useful in them?
Do any of the members of this forum have any ideas for keeping them?

Let me know.

artful uses
“This isn’t the same Trump that got elected in 2016, he’s worse.”
“Something snapped in this guy — for real — when he lost in 2020,” Biden said, suggesting the former president was “unhinged” and was the driving force behind a mob of his supporters overrunning the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021."
“He can’t accept the fact that he lost, it’s literally driving him crazy,” Biden said.
He added that the former president “wants to terminate the Constitution” and “says if he loses there will be a bloodbath in America.”
“What kind of man is this?”  Biden asked. — June 3, 2024

That depends on the model. Not all rubber domes are equal. What do you have?

Key Tronic ErgoForce, BTC dome with slider, older Unix workstation keyboards,
and ergonomically shaped keyboards are some of the more interesting ones.
Some keyboards from the '80s and '90s have high-quality keycaps that are compatible with mechanical switches, so those are in demand for that reason. But don't expect to get any large sums for them.

Notebook keyboards would be interested mostly as spare parts. I believe they tend for wear out faster than desktop keyboards, and they are often more difficult to clean properly.

On the other hand, different collectors are different, and what is hyped up tends to shift with time.
As always with (things that could be) collectibles, it is often a question of finding the right buyer at the right time.
