[IC] Tind Mechanical Keyboard
« on: Thu, 25 July 2019, 22:06:59 »
Tind
/ tall, pointed mountain top
alpine-like mountains with wild, jagged peaks /

Prologue
Behind me, I have 0 years of Mechanical Engineering education, 0 years of design education and 0 CAD courses. But I have designed some keyboards. Actually it is the only thing I have designed, and drawn myself, in my entire life.

Actual information
The design process of the Tind was started in 2017, under the name Fjell Pro. It started out as a normal sandwich mount keyboard, then in mid 2017, it was designed with isolation in form of a rubber layer. Experimenting with carbon fiber, rubber gaskets, POM, aluminium and brass, I believe I have found the correct composition. A composition of materials that are all functional, and actually benefit the typing experience directly without being placebo and adding unnecessary cost. After multiple revisions, all the way to mid 2019, we finally got the seamless total isolation mount keyboard, the "Tind".

Total Isolation Mount, with evenly distributed stress points for the plate by having the plate rest around the entire case edge. Two layers of rubber gaskets and carbon fiber positioning frame, makes this keyboard our most unique design so far. This 3 layer design is here to remove to make the plate the part of the experience in the case, without having interference like pinging.  The case is engineered as a seamless design, that enclose the entire tech under the hood. Drawing design inspiration heavily from the Mekanisk Fjell, you get the chamfered edges that started it all back in 2016.

Details
  • Aluminium case enclosure, seamless
  • For 60% keyboards
  • Optional brass weight insert
  • Aluminium/brass/polycarbonate/half plate options for the plate, depending on how much flex you would like to have
  • With, or without HHKB blockers
  • Mekanisk x wilba.tech WT60-D available(VIA compability)
  • Custom, high end packaging material
  • Final price not set yet, because there are many options
  • Small round with limited numbers(to start out)

Colors
Ultramarine, R1 grey, silver

When
Instead of when, i will just share progress.

Currently testing latest production sample, and making adjustments for production testing unit. Looking great so far.

details may change at any time, for any reason, without any notice

The video of the engineering sample really sold it for me.

It looks to be a simple, but strong design.

Look forward to upcoming details regarding this product!

It looks amazing, congrats for the job man!

Is the outer case exactly the same as the Fjell? I guess I'll just have two cases with the same design then lol

I'm assuming we will be able to mix and match the colors of the top and bottom pieces? Also that ultramarine color is really nice I think it would look pretty sweet with metropolis.

Have you decided how the limited run will go? Will it be FCFS or a raffle?

Just received my first Mekanisk keyboard the Klippe and I'm loving it - even at the entry level it feels so well built and best of all it sounds great. Looking forward to getting my hands on the Tind or the plain old Fjell Pro.

You should do a comparison between the Fjell and Tind for sound signature for your next video.

Sooo, prob stupid question, is a top  plate fixed somehow to the bottom part of a case or it will all fall off when lifted / pushed around?

Looks rad anyway, def interested in HHKB version!

Looks like mounts sticking out on the left and right to attach the bottom to the top.

Yeah, I mean that looks like it, but on YouTube video top case was just slided on the bottom part and thatís all.

Just want to be sure :D
