Corsair K70 questions
« on: Sat, 21 September 2019, 16:46:16 »
Hi all,

I've seen a few say to avoid gaming keyboards if you want a good keyboard.

I've used two Corsair keyboards which both used MX Cherry Reds the last of which was a K70

I'm curious what the dislike if these keyboards is?

In what way is a Leopold with the same switches better?

The switches are the same but the build quality / Price is just bad of the corsair keyboard. Leopold offers better build quality overall. Key-caps are just 2000 times better PBT with a good profile,Stabilizers are better, has silent foam in the case to reduce case pinging. And the price/performance is just very very good compared other keyboards. And the best part of the Leopold is that the bottom row is standard so any custom key cap will fit. But the corsair has a custom bottom row that makes finding key caps just hell.

I fixed my family members Corsair K70 rapid fire. The key caps are just so low quality thin abs. And the plate is also the housing like what the cheap Chinese keyboards have you can get for 22 dollars from Ali Express.

Only reason i would get a corsair or any gaming keyboard is if i really wanted RGB disco light in my room. Otherwise it's meh but for the price what you get i will rate it a 2/10.

Sup pretty much hit the nail on the head. Compared to Leopold specifically Corsair's boards are a very poor value for your money. Even the highest end Corsair "Gaming" MKBs are more similar to cheap Chinese MKBs than any of Leopold's boards, Sup was not exaggerating. The big upgrades over the $20 to $50 Chinese MKBs on the Corsair boards would be better RGB lighting control, better macro capabilities (although you have to use the Corsair software to access this & the RGB control), USB passthrough, & slightly better switches (Cherry switches have been middle of the road switches for sometime now, since the clones have caught up & even surpassed them in some cases). Beyond that they are made in much the same way. A cheap thin aluminium top housing that also serves as the plate, a cheap thin plastic bottom housing, very thin & cheap ABS caps (even the upgraded PBT caps are cheap ones), mass produced by a company who makes many other products so the QC is always suspect, etc.

To me when you are buying a $20 to $50 MKB all of that should be assumed & expected, at that price point someone should just be looking for a MKB that works & doesn't fall apart in days. Now take that same formula & slap a $100 to $200 price tag on it, doesn't look so attractive anymore does it. As for the big differences between a Leopold board & Corsair one they would be a properly designed KB (separate housing from the PCB/plate/switches assembly), a better housing (Yes it is all plastic, but a high quality & decently thick plastic), nice hefty steel plate, much higher quality stock key caps, standard layout, & much higher QC. All at the same or lower pricing than a Corsair "gaming" MKB. As it stands now I'd put Razer's & Logitech's in the same category as Corsair's. Although Razer has actually been in contact with the community & is actively trying to bring theirs up to par with Leopold's, Varmillo's, Ducky's, etc. offerings. So they may be a company to keep an eye on if you're dead set on having a "gaming" MKB.

Ultimately though I think the actual hate the community harbors for all these "gaming" MKBs is from the fact that for the $200 to $250 you'd pay for a top of the line one, you could build a fairly nice custom MKB that is even of higher quality than the Leopold boards. A lot of the community started with these Corsair, Razer, Logitech, etc. "gaming" MKBs & felt ripped off after they found out how low quality they are compared to other brands that exclusively make MKBs at lower prices or how nice of a custom build you can build for the same price. Rightfully so IMHO also, I'd be pissed too if I found out my $200 MKB had more in common with a $50 no name Chinese MKB than a $120 Leopold board that outclasses both in every way!

The reason why I never gonna buy a corsair keyboard: Don't have standard bottom row size, 99% of the keycaps sets won't fit on a corsair keyboard.

If there's anything that life has taught me, it's that you should NEVER trust companies like Corsair and Razer to make your keyboard.
In my experience, the K70 is flimsy as all hell and seems to be made of low-quality materials. To echo Sup, only buy it if you want the flashy RGB.
Go with the Leopold, it's just the better buy. Better build quality, better stabilizers, keycaps aren't made of milk jugs, etc.
Linears are for linear people. No offense if you use linears.
I prefer tactile switches, I'm reluctantly using the AULA SI-859 and my pronouns are she/her.
