[GB] Klippe S Mechanical Keyboard by Mekanisk
« on: Sat, 19 October 2019, 09:32:26 »

Price: $310

(This will be outdated pricing when the group buy starts, please check the website.)
Colors: Ultramarine, R1 Grey, Silver, E-white

Included
  • Klippe S mechanical keyboard top and bottom piece, CNCed in aluminium (Standard or Blocked Corners)
  • Carbon fiber isolation layer for the plate mounting
  • Aluminium Plate with either European, or American layout
  • High quality, VIA compatible, printed circuit board designed by Wilba
  • High quality packaging for storage, initial and future freight (I have made the packaging good so you can reuse it, so please do not throw it away.)
  • 4x stainless steel screws for the plate mounting, 6x stainless steel screws for the case mounting, rubber bumpons

Optional add-ons
  • High density precision cut EVA foam infill for the case (+$10)
  • Brass plate upgrade(+$15)
  • PC plate upgrade (+$10)
  • E-White coating(+$30)
If it is an upgrade or not, is just personal preference. Plate material pricing is based on cost of manufacturing.

Extra parts
  • Extra aluminum plate $25
  • Extra PC plate $35
  • Extra brass plate $40
  • Extra top standard $70
  • Extra top blocked corners $70
  • Extra PCB $60
  • Extra CF isolation layer $25

Not included, but needed to complete the kit: PCB mounted stabilisers, switches, keycaps

Design
Klippe means Cliff in Norwegian. Based on the Klippe T(tray) by Mekanisk, the Klippe S has some considereable upgrades. It is bottom mount, with an isolation layer. It is mounted in a way that makes the typing experience even and has a richer sound. There is now also an option for blocked corners. Klippe S is designed for a firm and even typing experience.
Low starting height: 18mm (lowest on any Mekanisk board)
8 degree typing angle

Isolation
Standard isolation in form of a carbon fiber layer for the mounting plate to rest on. This does help elimitinating the potential for pinging and metallic sounds from the keyboard(which can occour on 2-part keyboards). All in all, it is an affordable way to ensure that the keyboard sounds like you want it to, without costing you more than necessary. It's nothing magic.

Typing experience
Klippe S has a firm and even typing experience by default, this is due to the plate resting around the whole case. You can adjust flex by customizing the plate and isolation.

Weight
Klippe S has no weight, however it weighs around 1.3 kg.

How to buy
As many of you know, I do not start out a new design by selling a large amount of units, then make the kits more available later. Initially there was going to be a raffle, however there might be some kind of FCFS in addition, or maybe just that. We have a little more time to figure this one out.
First round will have approximately 50 units. The next rounds will have more, and might have a different pricing, design and options.

When
Pre-order November 2019, maybe december. Shipping early 2020 or earlier.

Disclaimers:
Pricing is not 100% finished, there will be some minor updates.

Looking forward to it.

Will you open source the plate files? If so, and I cut my own plate, will it be compatible with a boardwalk PCB?

Any chance at a half plate since the included pcb has flex cuts in it?

Not this round, however if we have them in the future, they’ll be available for purchase standalone. It’s just some features and options we have to leave out, sadly.

Wow, really liking the huge upgrades you done here while keeping the price reasonable, awesome work LeandreN! Might have to pick one up if I got the funds when this goes live. Nov. & Dec. are tough months to have the extra scratch in though.

It's definitely refreshing to see the price this low while it's almost becoming the norm for keyboards to be in the 500+ range.

Thank you! Yes, it is a tough month for many, with Christmas coming up. It will run again later :)

The PCB layout is the standard WT60-D layout. No hot swap. It supports ISO/ANSI/TSANGAN/HHKB.

Any chance you would consider FR4 plates for future rounds ?

Maybe in future rounds, however we are already pushing the limits in terms of options for this round.

Very cool! Will this plate support a split backspace layout? (HHKB compatibility is mentioned, but not for the split backspace specifically.

I'm in the same boardwalk boat!  If I could somehow get this case without the pcb and plate that would be preferable :)

This looks really good, can't wait to buy it. I'm still relatively new to custom keyboards, and I was wondering if i would be able to buy it... well obviously I'm going to buy it, but I'm not sure if there is going to be the raffle thing or whatever.

read the OP, this will be done raffle style

enter the raffle

if you don't win, spend the extra cash and get one on mm, or wait for the second round

leandren is meticulous (which is good, don't get me wrong) so the second round could be months away

Yes, the bezels are larger. This is mainly due to the plate resting around the entirety of the case.

Not yet, as I don't have a good microphone which causes it to sound entirely different on video than in real life.
