Broken Matias Mini Quiet Pro
« on: Wed, 30 October 2019, 06:57:42 »
Hi, my Mini Quiet Pro suddenly (literally) died.

Well, a few week ago Esc stopped registering except by applying a really disproportionate force, I thought that was due to a mechanical problem of that switch alone.

Now, no key works, I tried two computers and several USB cables.

Is anyone an expert in the hard ware of this particular keyboard? Is it feasible to repair it or should I simply put it in the drawer of historical/broken peripherals?

I had the same issue with some keys not working on my new Matias Ergo only two weeks in. Contacted the vendor and their answer “just massage the keys a bit” annoyed me so much that I threw it into the attic and bought a Kinesis Freestyle Edge.

Turns out that these issues are quite common because QC on Matias switches is terrible. I might eventually buy a few replacement switches and take a soldering iron to the Ergo.

However, your whole keyboard stopping to work sounds like a different cause since all the switches failing at the same time seems pretty unlikely.

I also believe the problem with the switch was unrelated.

BTW which switches did you choose for your Kinesis?

MX Brown. Choice was very limited IIRC.
