dead keys after swapping to new switches
« on: Wed, 11 December 2019, 18:24:38 »
I'm new to the world of enthusiast keyboards.  That said, I recent'y got a Kira, swapped the trues it came with for some royal clears and now I have dead keys... already tried flashing to no avail.  Not having a backspace right now is killing me, the handful of other keys not working I can live with, but the backspace...  being new, thought I'd check here and see if there's some hints or advice some of you might want to share on how I might get this Kira back to normal.  Thanks!

Are you really confident in your desoldering abilities or did you lift some pads?  If you did you'll need to solder some jumper wires then the dead keys will come back to life.  Pictures of the back of the board will help with more specific advice, preferably with the trace lines visible in the shine from a light.  Hopefully it's not white...

The board is a hot swap board - stock Kira, by Input Club.  I'll pull the board and inspect it, I'm not bad with soldering if I need to do something, I have all the right tools.  Though, and because this is a hot swap board I'd rather exhaust all other options first, before soldering, whatever those options may be.

I was until a few minutes ago - I have bent pins.  Oh wow, this is embarrassing.  Ok, so what I have going on now is a mix of royal clears and trues for the time being. lol, uhg.  Operator error - thanks for the replies folks, this is 100% on me.

Good tip, I'll give that a try, a couple of them may be salvaged, hopefully all of them.   I should probably get a bag of extras for good measure regardless of how many I can bring back.
