Kailh pro burgundy switches

Just received a bunch of new switches (Gateron red, yellow | kailh speed silver, pro burgundy and purple).

I'm a big fan of light linear switches (been using Gateron clears for the last year or so) but I'm loving those Kailh pro burgundy so far. They feel so sturdy and consistent. I prefer them light and they would be perfect at a weight about 5 grams lighter but since they actuate at 1.7mm instead of 2.2mm, they actuate at a decent weight and the more pronounced force curve after actuation acts more like a cushion before you bottom out. Really enhances that finger floating feeling.


And the sound... WOW. Even not lubed, they have that deep sound which is really amazing.

I know Kailh has a reputation of being cheaper than many other switches company around but really, they are worth a try and a nice addition to your switches rotation.

And do they feel like something between reds and blacks or is that a bit more complicated?

Pro purples are tactile, Pro burgundies are linear. They are heavier than reds, lighter than blacks. There might be (slight) differences in the curve of the spring, but I don't remember.

Burdungies are linear, purples are tactile (though the bump is higher than on most tactile switches). They bump is around 0.7-0.8mm so it gives resistance right at the beginning of the keypress and kinda collapses after the bump.

Like Venaros said, they are somewhere between reds and blacks. I consider them to be closer to Gateron yellows.

You can always spring swap, go on sprit, txkeyboards, thicthock, novelkeys, you can buy springs at what weight you like and just spring swap the switches.

I see you are using Varmilo keycaps. I find them to work well with the Pro Purples, so maybe there's something to this.

 I know MX compatible linears are the best out of the bunch, but are they as good as Space Invaders or Alps? It seems that Kailh and Gateron are making little tweaks to their switches and naming them as entirely different switches.

"As good" would be subjective. But I do agree that a lot of their switches are just very minor tweaks presented as something brand new.

I find that all the Kailh switches sound very "glassy" in a way that I find unpleasant. It's improved with thick lube but it never fully goes away. The sliders however are very high quality, and they feel and sound great in MX housings.

Sound wise I find that any clear or milky housing is very unsatisfying for me, cherry housings are the way to go. Usually deeper sounding, and more full. Every clear housing I've tried is thin sounding, maybe glassy like you say.

I've not tried black bottom with milky top actually, so I can't say for sure. Nixies I've tried in the past seem to be a bit thinner sounding than regular vint blacks though, so it could be similar?

Black/milky sounds much nicer than milky/milky, especially when lubed. The milky bottoms seem to impart a really unpleasant harsh character to the sound, I imagine it has something to do with the stiffness of the plastic.

Gaterons are somewhat smooth, cherries are scratchy. Best to lube linears
