Dang!
I searched the attic for some stuff and stumbled upon two keyboards of me ex-roommate. I have no idea what brand the first one is. Here are some pics of the cleaning process:

First, I popped it open. Literally, there weren't any screws.

Crumble-tastic!

The numlock, roll and capslock have integrated LEDs - nice! And yay, a spring!

Circuit board on the back. The IC reads Intel.

Sticker on the backside.

Decrumbled....

... and put together with every key cleaned seperatly.

The typing is very smooth and very quiet. Feels nice =)

Next one:
Obviously a Commodore.

No doubt - a Commodore

... for Windows. Din AT-Jack. (What a crumbly mess, btw)

Unfortunatly, the Commodore is strongly yellowed.

First one is a Fujitsu Peerless. There is only one thing to do with these switches. Burn it with fire, as soon as possible.

Won't be a friend for long...

BTW the second one looks like a rebadged BTC. Oughta be foil+foam capacitive, practically linear feel, and absolutely awful.

I'm cleaning it right now - it has dome switches :|

It's a peerless.

I recommend 2 microdots of good acid and Pink Floyd's seminal classic "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" If you want to appreciate this magnificent keyboard.

Those Peerless sliders remind me of the ones used in the Sun Type 5, except I'm pretty sure the Type 5 was just rubber domes.

the type 5 is pretty solid, I'd use one over a peerless anyday.

I only mentioned it because he's digging up very dirty items from an attic, and chances are some of the "crumbs" actually are dried mouse droppings.

As for my avatar... yes, I would take the mouse droppings too. This isn't just a normal bunchie. It's the custom Troll-face gr1m Edition bunchie.

Your phrasing is correct, but at the same time the air in a room containing (a large amount of) rodent feces is the same if not worse (because you can't see the threat).

It's very doubtful that jensma is going to be inhaling mouse turds. The particulates that are airborne and containing the virii are what you are most likely referring to. While your statement was not incorrect, your phrasing WAS problematic because it did not CONVEY the message you intended. Your phrasing made more than one person here imagine jensma sucking entire mouse turds by the mouthful to the point that it killed him.

It's not the mouse poop that kills, it's the virus. It would be VERY difficult for the mouse poop itself to be the cause of death. Aspiration or asphyxiation COULD do it, but it would take a lot of mouse poo or some really bad luck.

Now do you understand that MS Win was not trolling, and neither was I? While it is helpful to point out the risks and dangers of dealing with rodent feces, it seemed as much like a trolling statement to the rest of us as any I've seen, especially considering the way it was worded.

Also, jensma is in Germany, and it appears the carrier of the variants of hanta in Deutschland are voles encountered by farmers, it is not that likely that any feces that MIGHT have been encountered (we still don't even know if there was any to begin with) would be infected with hanta.

I said inhaling DRIED mouse droppings. When it dries, it can crumble and the particles can be inhaled just like normal dust. It is most likely these dried, crumbled mouse-poop particles that contain the Hanta virus.

You're nit-picking to an excess. I did not accuse you of trolling, nor did I accuse you of saying that I was incorrect. However, I am sure my statement managed to convey exactly what I meant. Mouse poop containing Hanta virus can dry, disintegrate and be inhaled, killing the recipient.

Hantavirus has been found in Alberta, I remember reading recently. Originally, it was mostly found in the Four Corners area of the western United States.

There are several strains of hanta virus, and not all are fatal, and not all are found in all places with rodents. In the US there are roughly 40-60 cases of hanta in each of the four corners states per year. That means four states out of 50, each with less than 100 confirmed cases. On the whole, it's a VERY UNCOMMON virus in human populations in the US. Let's go with the high end of the average for those states...

4 states x 60 annual cases = 240 cases total

307,000,000 people in the US / 240 cases/yr = 1 case per 1.28 million people

The chances are below one in a million that you'd contract Hanta in the U.S. in any given year.

Other nations have other strains with different characteristics, with far too many details to get into here. Some are even able to be spread from human to human, but many of these do not have the fatal outcomes typically associated with Hanta.

Nice peerless. I found an old style peerless at work a while back, and the backlash against peerless on this site was enough to make me pretend it never happened. I left the board there and never looked back.

Did you know that bananas are actually berries? Crazy huh.
The original American banana, the ones that your parents put in their cereal, was called the gros michel (big mike). It was longer, girthier, and far more delicious than the little chinese cavendish that we eat today. Unfortunately, the gros michel was wiped out by Sigatoga virus in the 50's, what a shame.
