Unicomp Issues
« on: Tue, 14 April 2020, 13:01:24 »
Hello,

I have a Unicomp (UB40P4A) Ultra Classic Black Buckling Spring USB keyboard that I'm having challenges with.  I plug it into my PC and Windows makes a noise that it sees the device and I can see it in Device Manager... but I can't type anything.  Is there any way to troubleshoot this on my own or via some software diagnostics?  I miss my loud keyboard  :(

Thanks!

I did some reading, since I don't yet own any Unicomps. This might be helpful:

Model M Troubleshooting FAQ

I have heard of Unicomp controller problems. Maybe your usb controller isn't suppling enough amperage to the tempermental keyboard controller? Maybe you could try a powered USB hub, other ports/controllers/computers, etc?

I know jacethesaltsculptor would know more. He uses Unicomps a lot, and I could have sworn he had some controller problems himself.

Maybe you should reach out to Unicomp as well. I have heard that their customer service is fantastic. Based on my only exchange with them, I am inclined to agree with the sentiment. They forgot one of the keycaps I ordered for my F77. I sent them a picture of the unopened bag and they quickly sent me tracking information for the missing key, no questions asked.

Thanks those are great ideas.  I'll try the powered USB hub first.  I agree Unicomp's support is fantastic.  Hopefully It doesn't need surgery and I can fix it myself.  Thanks again :-)

I’ve had this issue with other boards but not my Unicomp. Sometimes it helps it the usb is plucked in when the computer starts.
