Kits
Rendered by Izeri

The base kit includes support for a variety of boards from 60 to TKL, including Alice, UK ISO, and F13.

The numpad kit includes support for full-size and 1800 boards (in conjunction with the base kit) and standalone numpads.

The accent kit adds a pop of color to your board -- more orange, the same one found in the legends.

The 40s kit adds support for a variety of popular and obscure 40s and Ortho boards, notably including the Minivan.

The Mac kit adds legend-correct support for Mac layouts, including F14 and F15 to replace some top-row modifiers.

The NorDe kit offers affordable support for a variety of European layouts, including Swedish, Finnish, German, Danish, Norwegian, Estonian, and Faeroese.

The spacebar kit includes a 6u convex bar, as well as 1.25u blanks for 6.25u split layouts. An additional 1u blank and two 3u blanks are included for a 3-1-3 split.

These novelties -- designed by Stellaidoscope -- aim to bring the set beyond just a colorscheme, featuring drawings of scenes from Carpinteria alongside classic weather icons.

About DSS Profile
Click MORE for more information
More
DSS profile was created by Comptec Inc (now known as Signature Plastics) to fit the universal keycap standards introduced in the mid-80s. Fading out of the spotlight shortly after in favor of its uniform brother DSA, DSS was considered lost to history until its reintroduction in the late 2010s.

Featuring a spherical top (similar to DSA), DSS is sculpted profile, much like the Cherry and SA profiles in that regard. Made from ABS plastic, DSS offers a unique typing experience. If you’ve ever wished that your DSA keycaps were sculpted, your GMK keycaps were spherical, or you just want to try something new… DSS may be right for you.

DSS Carpinteria uses a 1-1-2-3-4-3 sculpt.

To compare DSS to your favorite keycap profiles, check out Keycaps.info

Note: As SP does not offer split spacebars in the DSS profile, DSA blanks are offered as an alternative in the base, 40s, and spacebar kits.

Love to see more DSS! Profile of the future.

R3 1.75 bottom row FN probably doesn't need inclusion in the 40s kit as the 12.75u peeps have basically moved beyond that layout at this point (even Evan himself no longer uses it).

Please drop that in the IC form so I have all kitting feedback in one place!

Love to see more DSS! Profile of the future.

Yes, in a future kit render, we're cutting that FN key, allowing a LOCK (substituting for CAPS LOCK) to take its place.

awesome! love to see you moving up in the keep game. GLWIC

Now give me F13

Aww, thanks Powwu! And, yes, F13 is coming.

I forgot to mention: please also include 1.5u shift in the 40s kit, and 1.5u Function in either base or 40s

1.5u shift -- will add
1.5u function -- what do you need it for?

Interested, great colours and the DSS profile make this a nice set for the right board.

Thanks for your support!

Ps. Please keep the UK ISO through the IC GB

Thank you too! I totally appreciate that support. I plan to keep UK ISO in base at this time

in a few months time DSS lead times will start to look like SA

I hope not!

cute set! r3 control (stepped or not) would be nice to also have in base, otherwise kitting looks good.

Thanks! Yeah, the R3 CONTROL was cut to keep kit prices down, but with the CAPS LOCK key swapping to LOCK, it should be less of a problem imo.

Nice looking set, really like the colors!

Wow, thank you! Happy you like it!

How thick are these DSS keycaps?

the color way is nice and inoffensive, but to be honest the dss is rather interesting to me, as i like spherical and sculpted and that both KAT and SA are rather high, depending on the price i may jump on it.

I agree. To elaborate, the alphas and mods should be split, that way 40s users don't have to get the full-size mods. Please see the PimpMyKeyboard DSS Tecla shop page as an example of how kits could/should be split.

that also implies higher prices for everyone else, but then most peoples can't seem to care about others anyhow

From experience, doing a la carte kitting is indeed possible with SP-produced sets, but certain types of keys scale very poorly costwise without a high MOQ.

So you are for the ortho/40s keys to be included in base kit? That would be a good solution as well.

That can indeed be cost-effective, which is why DSS Late Harvest takes that approach.  However, I think this set is (1) aiming at a lower MOQ and (2) using a larger amount of non-stock-color plastic, so that might not work as well here.

Each designer has different target price points and audiences, and DSS is such a wild card at this point that it probably benefits the community to try a lot of different kitting schemes.

i am for the solution that means the most peoples pay the least, it is why although i am an ISO user i never fight to have iso included in the base, but as a kit, i will not fight to get it removed from base either to be fair. so if having those keys in the base does not increase price by much and makes more peoples happy then yeah that is a rather good solution but if it add 25% to the price for 2 peoples to be happy, then nah mate.
(and i would say the same for ISO support, or any "non standards" features, even though ISO is far more standard than ANSI)

= barely over 1mm, which is not really thick by keycap standards (1.5-1.6mm being fairly standard)

Thanks, NoPun, for stepping in here! I've been debating how best to cover 40s layouts... and I think that my "GMK Style" kitting allows me to successfully cover a large amount of people with as few keys as possible. That being said, I'm open to feedback on my kitting.

If you check my changelog post under a "more" button, you'll see some pending changes that cut keys, both in base and in the 40s kit, without cutting support. If you have any suggestions on how to cover 40s better (without raising the price astronomically), please let me know and I will add it to the list!

Thanks for your support!

DSS is the same thickness as DSA which is .040"

= barely over 1mm, which is not really thick by keycap standards (1.5-1.6mm being fairly standard)

Some may complain. It feels better once you have good switches because you can feel it more. So you feel the goodness when you have good switches.

I really really love the colours and the style. My buy really depends on the price of the set. I’ve never tried DSA or DSS so I don’t think I’m comfortable dropping as much on this as I would on a cherry profile set. Will be watching this tho!

Love the colors. I always thought dark navy and black is a great combination. Add a contrasting yellow. Boom!
Which reminds me. I'm sad I didn't join the GMK Thinkcap GB.

Hey everyone!

Thank you so much for supporting my set so far... it's been wonderful to see how much you love this.

Quick update re: the vendor list:

I've added Fancy Customs for Latin America, iLumkb for SEA, and Rectangles.store for India. I'm hoping to bring this keyset to a wide variety of markets at an affordable price.

As before, I am truly impressed with how supportive you've been. Thank you, seriously.

We're also trying to fit a GB into Q2 2021!

Re: [IC] DSS Carpinteria | UK Vendor Announced | Group Buy Date Coming Soon

Hey everyone!

Just a couple quick updates today:

1. I just added Prototypist as a UK vendor. Now, we have vendors covering:

United States, Canada, Europe, United Kingdom, Oceania, Latin America, Southeast Asia, India, Philippines, and China.

If there's any regions that aren't covered, please let me know and I'll try to add a vendor!

2. I'm still working on some kitting refinements coming soon!

3. I'm discussing pricing and potential GB dates with my vendors right now. Expect some updates on that soon!

Thank you, again, for your support!
