Oh, two last things, since I've been asked a few questions about it:

I will never re-run GMK Red Alert again. Given how it's performing, I don't know if anyone will run it again.

Also, I will also probably never run any set again. Whether RA succeeds or not, I've accomplished my goals with keyset design (whatever the hell "keyset design" means, am I right?)

So if you miss RA here (either in GB or extras), I highly doubt there will be another chance.

Sorry if I missed it, or if it's common knowledge, but how come the base set MOQ is 500? Is it just relating to the price points given?

Photekq! Thank you so much for your help getting this to GB, and thanks for your support!!

MOQ is 500 at this GB pricing based on GMK's quoting. Adding the R5 profile pushed up the manufacturing quote enough that, even running only three stock colors, and with a relatively standard base kit configuration, a $135 GB price made the most sense for vendors.

Meanwhile, the Cyrillic child kit is bearing some cost for new GMK doubleshot molds for Latin + Cyrillic alphas. Those are not pad-printed Cyrillics.

I apologize if I offended you with my previous comment, that was unwise of me to say so. About the part that you mention you'll never run any sets again, people might disagree, your Birch is the new classic, it needs rerunning in the future. That set is a killer.

This is a rerun I've been looking forward to for ages.

I didn't justify getting a set back in 2015, and I'm still kicking myself over it.

I will definitely be joining the GB, unfortunately not before the end of the month.

i also bought two of gmk birch base kits :)

there will always be some sour people here and there who will complain about everything, but know that there are those who appreciate your work. it sucks that we'll lose a good keycap designer, but i understand the decision given the current state of the hobby.

This is a great set, I think the big issue is there are so many high desirable sets that have been running so close to each other within the last couple of months. I can't think of any other time with this amount of quantity of popular sets running in this close a time frame. Also a bunch of custom keyboard GBs ran recently also draining people's wallets.

To be clear, I'm not stepping away because of anything about the community. But since developing Birch and RA, my little man has grown into a slightly-larger man, and I want to be present for him. I'm stepping away to be with my family and try out some other creative venues.

I suspect that the vendors have committed to buying enough extras to meet the MOQ.

These days meme sets seem to do very well.. It can be disappointing for those who value classic sets like RA, but it's just a result of more people than ever being in the hobby, all with diverse tastes, and many of whom don't feel a great level of nostalgia for classic like RA (or 9009, Dolch etc)

Thank you all!! For those asking: vendors were satisfied with order trends to date and confident we’d hit enough sales by April 9th to justify manufacturing the set.

Other sets keep coming up in this thread for some reason. Like I said before: there’s room for everyone’s preferences for keycaps in our community.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to once again collaborate with TRMK Caps, this time on a set of GMK Red Alert artisans.



I appreciate a different sculpt with each release - I loved the Birch Rob & Max and Iron Osas. But for this one it’s hard to choose between all three.

You’ll get your chance to choose tomorrow, March 26th at 9pm ICT (that’s 10am EST for folks stateside).

Great to hear this will be made, break.  Such a classic.  Will probably grab a set towards the end of the GB though.

I feel like the num row kit really speaks for GA.  You can't get a base kit without it.   :cool:

Agreed! I was back and forth on the base kit because I REALLY like the way this looks, but in the end, I decided to uphold my NorDE-only policy (and obviously, with the current numbers, about three people besides me would have bought a NorDe kit), but that brass Rama just could not be passed up and will find it's place on another classic-looking board. :) Nice work on this, break! I hope you get bored with your planned hiatus quickly and come back soon with another cool set like this. /Johannes
