Green ALPS springs in other ALPS switches?
« on: Thu, 02 September 2010, 13:56:19 »
Has anyone tried lighter springs from Green ALPS in clicky White or Blue switches?

Going into another linear switch would be fine I'm sure, but I don't know how the pressure of the click leaf would work with the lighter springs... or are the springs even lighter?  Perhaps it's the absence of the click leaf is what makes the Greens lighter.

Seeing as the first, what, .3mm of travel starts roughly (no pun intended) in the same place, it would make me think the click/tactile leaf has something to do with resistance in some varieties.

I love how this linear switch is clearly not linear at all...

If I hadn't seen that graph I would never have guessed green ALPS weren't perfectly linear, but my Chicony keyboard is old and possibly worn out.

Wait, you have a Chicony with GREEN ALPS?  I think they've used every possible switch in existence except buckling springs, but at this point nothing would surprise me.

The Zenith boards I had with Green ALPS felt totally linear as well.

ALPS are like Big Macs.  Nobody knows what's in it but the Secret Sauce makes it go down easier.

Seriously I don't have one so it would be sheer speculation on my part but since Yellows are linear that would be my guess as well.

Or Teflon.  Anything is possible with ALPS.

the secret sauce in Big Mac is thousand island salad dressing.

it's easy to make it's a simple tartar sauce. mayonnaise, relish, ketchup.
