New Model F: can't get into bootloader mode ?
« on: Thu, 04 November 2021, 11:56:04 »
I have a New Model F keyboard and I'm trying to flash the firmware to change the layout.

I did this once successfully, but I'm trying to redo it and now I can't get it into bootloader mode.

The last time I used "qmk-pandrew-macos-util-20210321.dmg" and it worked great, but now it doesn't recognize the controller:

I've tried various keyboard shortcuts (shift+B, etc) and "shorting two contacts while plugging the keyboard in, and releasing after" but that doesn't seem to do the trick.

Any ideas how to get a new model F keyboard controller into bootloader mode ?

Hi jknight. Are you shorting the contacts and then plugging the USB cable in while they are still shorted and leaving them so for about a second after? I have had to do that a few times with New Model Fs to get mine into bootloader mode.

It might take a few attempts to get the process down, even if you're doing everything in the right order.

Yes that's exactly right. 15 attempts so far and no luck ....
how do you do it exactly ? Use a paperclip to connect the two and plug it in ?

Anything conductive should work. The blade of a screwdriver, a paperclip, a scrap piece of wire, etc. If there's any external coating on whatever you're shorting with, it might need to be scuffed off.
