Silly question, but I cannot brain tonight:

So suppose that hypothetically I were to do a diode addition to cherry switches with bridges in them on a custom pcb - would I be correct in assuming that said bridge would no longer be needed and I could remove it from inside the switch?

Yup. You might find 'em handy while routing the board though. Of course if you open up the switches anyway, you could just install a bunch of diodes instead.

Thanks! I'm planning on doing the the switches and diodes on different layers, which helps with the routing better anyway than having them on the same layer, methinks.

Yup. Make sure you leave plenty of groundplane though, no need to provoke RFI issues.

Well I didn't put diodes in, I just put switches with diodes in another keyboard. Wasn't shooting for NKRO or anything like that.

Btw, I ended up fixing all the problems I had with the traces separating from the board, and I put a jumper on all the switches, so now everything works fine.
