Hi everyone! Welcome my first interest check for GMK CYL Gorp! My name is Evan, or Extrapriusplease (EPP for short). Some of you may know me from my build streams on Twitch or have seen the Dolch hats I ran a GB for earlier in March. Super excited to roll this out

Background:

Gorp, also known as 'Good Ol Raisins and Peanuts'—a term affectionately used for trail mix—has transcended its outdoor origins to make a significant mark on the fashion world. Over the past decade, this influence has formed a distinct style known as 'Gorpcore'. This fashion movement embraces functional outdoor gear, seamlessly integrating practicality with contemporary style.

The Gorpcore trend began gaining traction in 2011 when the Japanese clothing brand Beams teamed up with the renowned Canadian outdoor brand Arc’teryx. This collaboration, initially exclusive to Japan from 2011 to 2021, introduced a range of high-performance outerwear that captured the attention of fashion insiders.

The turning point came when images of celebrities wearing these distinctive jackets began surfacing on fashion forums and social media. This exposure shot the Beams x Arc’teryx collections into the spotlight, marking 2017 as a pivotal year for both brands. Among the standout releases of this period, the Beta SL Patchwork Beams x Arc’teryx jacket stands out as a personal favorite. This keycap set is a nod to this jacket while staying true to muted & understated beige keycaps.

Ideology:

- The base kit uses GMK L9 Alphas, which allows us to keep this kitting minimal
- Because the yellow alphas might be polarizing, I am offering an Alt Alphas kit. GMK is allowing us to use the same alpha colors at GMK Plum! This is slightly more saturated than the RAL color I chose, but after some thought, it will look better and provide more contrast!

- CYL Profile: ABS plastic, thick doubleshot keycaps manufactured by GMK
- Colors: GMK L9 - Beige Alphas, Matte Jade Green - RAL 160 80 10, Foggy Blue - RAL 250 70 10, Light Blond - RAL 085 85 20
- EPP Key: My good friend Gary, check out his website here, is responsible for the art / branding of my keyboard stuff. He asked if we could do this so why the frick not

Timeline:

- Pricing / Vendors: Super hyped to announce that Omnitype will be the lead vendor on this project! Regional vendors / timelines are still TBD!
- Color matching: After IC
- GB Timeline: TBD
- Color Chips: I ordered these from RAL to compare to Beige and Plum keycaps - note we will be using the same color as GMK Plum!

I'll be honest, I considered this because it would match the jacket, but I wouldn't use the set as much. I like the simplicity of a standard base kit tbh.

That’s the main reason why I didn’t include more bars in the base. I could do 6u within the alt alphas to accommodate. Will wait until we get more feedback though!

Yes of course! So far, there have been 150 responses, and only 35% of people want the Alt Alphas in the standard base kit. Because of this, I am going to roll with the Beige alphas in the base kit.

To speed up the color-matching process, GMK is allowing us to use the same color as the GMK Plum alphas! The chip I ordered is a tad lighter, but I think the more saturated yellow will look better.

Looking back at this again I missed that there is a "menu" key but only a 1.25U one. Any chance of getting a 1U for 7U bottom row? I love having system/code over super but menu would be really cool as well. Just a thought as I was coming back to look at this set again.

Imo, a better course of action would be to change 1.25u Menu to Fn as is standard in most sets (currently, there is no 1.25u Fn key in base). The thing is that the Menu legend has a pretty narrow meaning and isn't very versatile (Fn could work as Menu, but not the other way around).
