Solar80: A Keyboard Born from the Cycle of Time

Introduction

Solar80’s aesthetics spark polarized reactions: those who love it praise its bold design language, while others find it challenging to accept. This controversy stems from its unique evolution—from sketches to physical form—refined through countless iterations.

Design Philosophy: The Cycle of Time

Inspired by nature’s eternal rhythms:

•   Tree rings of felled logs beside sprouting grass.
•   The seasons’ turnover, the day-night alternation.
•   The sun and moon’s dance.

Solar80’s curves and structure embody the flow of time, not just static forms.

Structure and Layout

•   F13 omitted: Streamlined for visual harmony. (See layout diagram.)
•   Hot-swap & Soldered PCB options.

•   TOP mount: In an era of multi-structure, quick-disassembly trends, we return to simplicity.

o   A keyboard’s essence is a tool, not a gimmick.
o   We refined the classic TOP mount to perfection, aligning with the "cycle" theme—back to fundamentals.
o   Personal note: While multi-structure designs have merit, we prioritize reliability and feel. The choice is yours—like seasons, preferences vary.

As a designer, I firmly believe:

•   The essence of a keyboard lies in its function as an input tool—reliability and typing feel should always come first.
Rather than chasing structural novelty, perfection lies in refining a fundamental design.
The simplicity of a TOP mount best embodies our "cycle of time" philosophy—a return to essence, an eternal recurrence.
•   That said, this is purely my personal preference:
•   I deeply respect all well-executed multi-structure designs.
•   I understand the market’s demand for modularity and playability.
•   Yet, my heart leans toward purity and dependability.
•   Ultimately, the choice is yours. We merely offer an alternative—like seasons, where some crave spring’s vitality while others cherish winter’s serenity. There’s no absolute right or wrong, only distinct tastes.

Detail Showcase

•   Material adjustments: Originally planned red copper for weights, switched to aluminum due to hardness/laser-engraving issues. (See material test images.)

•   Surface treatment: Anodization and Coating (colors TBD).

•   Accents: Stainless steel + red copper trim (side rails, hollow ornaments, USB-C bezel).

•   Delta50 heritage: Retained side/front profiles.

Specifications

•   Typing angle:
•   Front height: 16.5mm
•   Finish: Anodization + coating

•   Package includes:

o   Case (top/bottom)
o   Internal weight, USB-C/back accent strips
o   Hollow/inlay components
o   Plate, PCB
o   Foam set (mid-layer, switch pad, bottom)
o   Accessories, warranty card, carry case

A pessimist will tell you the cup is half empty. An optimist will tell you the cup is half full. An engineer will tell you it's exactly twice the size it needs to be.

Please let us know if the issue is persisting; we checked on multiple devices and locations which seem to be working normally for all.

Thank you for letting us know!
