FRΛGMENT

IC Form | Discord | Website

FRΛGMENT is a highly customizable F13 TKL keyboard designed to balance refined aesthetics with personalization. With over 7,200 possible case configurations – not including plate and PCB options – FRΛGMENT allows you to tailor your board to your individual style.

Accent options include walnut, oak, and brass, along with cast epoxy resin Badges in the top case and Inlays embedded within the backplate. Commission-level customization for resin colour schemes and designs is available, with full details provided on the website.

A configurator will display the complete range of case options. While it won’t perfectly show the design and effect of the artisan resin components, it will provide a reasonably accurate approximation of the overall aesthetic. For now, please refer to the images of actual cast resin parts for a true representation – more images will be added to the IC as each resin colour scheme and casting process is finalized.

Example Configurations

The FRΛGMENT configurator will update dynamically to reflect each selected combination, showcasing the wide range of case options available. While the current renders provide an accurate representation of the overall case design and material selections, they do not yet display the unique patterns or depth of the artisan resin components.

These will be added over time as the renders are updated with each resin colourway - due to the number of configurations, this will take some time. In the meantime, please refer to the provided images of actual cast resin parts for a more accurate sense of the final look.

Prototype v0.2.3

Prototype v0.2.3 is near-final, with only minor refinements remaining. The case colours Moss and Dune are confirmed. The resin pattern and design are final, though colour matching and variation control are still being improved.

This version tested a high-gloss resin-coated finish for the wooden components, but due to the difficulty and high failure rate of the process, production units will instead feature a matte wood finish. The internal mounting system is also being slightly revised, along with small changes to reduce manufacturing costs. The brass finish will be updated as the current clear coat wears too quickly.

Prototype v0.1.5

Prototype v0.1.5 serves as a proof of concept for FRΛGMENT. The top case features the final Frost colourway, while the bottom case uses an early Slate variant that won’t be offered. The resin accents were made using an older casting method, which has since been refined for improved depth and consistency in production. The resin in this unit also doesn’t perfectly match the case colour—this will be adjusted in future versions.

This prototype helped identify and resolve several issues, including case bowing, PCB alignment, and sound inconsistency from the backplate design. Further details and ongoing updates are available on the website.

Mounting Systems

Plateless Gummy O-Ring

FRΛGMENT utilizes an improved version of the gummy O-ring system used in the QUΛNTUM60, addressing every aspect for improved performance. The new design features a fully custom O-ring with molded-in standoffs that pass through the PCB. Dual-material clips secure the O-ring from above - the soft material aligns with the case to reduce resonance, while the hard material ensures the O-ring stays firmly in place. Additionally, the latest revision maintains compatibility with both plate and plateless configurations while significantly simplifying assembly, requiring the removal of just seven screws to remove the PCB assembly.

*Subject to change – final implementation pending prototype part testing.*

Top Mount

For those who prefer a firmer, more traditional typing experience, FRΛGMENT also supports a top-mount configuration.

Internal Screws

FRΛGMENT utilizes seven magnetic screws positioned above the plate at a 45° angle. Unlike conventional hidden screw designs, which can be difficult to reach internally, this system keeps everything easily accessible from above making assembly and disassembly quicker and easier.

Feedback

I’d really appreciate your thoughts on a few specific areas:

Backplate Cutouts - Is it worth offering all three options (None / Rectangular / Cracked), or would a simpler approach make more sense? I'm particularly unsure if the cracked design is something people are actually interested in.

Accent Materials - Walnut, Oak, and Brass are planned, but Brass has a significant upcharge (around $50). It would be helpful to know whether there’s enough interest in Brass to justify offering it.

Resin Badges - There are multiple badge styles available, as well as the option for no badge at all. Just looking to get a sense of what people actually prefer.

Feel free to share any other thoughts or suggestions - all feedback is appreciated.

Looks very fun! I think if you are doing any cutout in the backplate, it could match the front badge near the arrow keys, and that could look really good.

Now THIS is appealing to me. Kudos on the design. As someone who doesn’t enjoy TKL’s in the slightest this makes me wanna get my first one.

Commenting again to ask if there is/was ever a thought about offering more designs for the bottom cutout? I was just thinking to myself how it would be rad to have like some other geometric shapes or patterns on the bottom as well. Like perhaps a honeycomb type pattern or cutout. Just food for thought!

Hi! I added the rectangular and no-cutout options since I figured the cracked design might be a bit polarizing - and based on the IC responses, that does seem to be the case. Really appreciate everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback.

As for additional cutout options, it’s definitely possible, but there are some cost implications when it comes to machining the backplates. On top of that, the resin backplate parts are by far the most difficult and failure-prone to produce, so I’m trying to keep things manageable for the GB.

That said, I really like your idea - it’s actually sparked a few thoughts around combining different inserts or mixing materials to form more complex, geometric shapes within the cutout. It’s something I would like to explore further, though with everything already involved in the GB, it might be a bit much to add but if it proves feasible and I’m confident it can be managed properly, it may be included as an option.
