[IC] DCS UFO
« on: Mon, 10 November 2025, 13:43:40 »

"Is there life out there?!"

DCS UFO is an extra-terrestrial keyset to be commissioned from Signature Plastics in doubleshot ABS. It's coming soon to a galaxy near you!

From the team behind DCS Good Morning, which fulfilled in October 2025.

Overview

A range of kits are being polled in this interest check, as our last DCS run saw a good turnout of 40s and Alice users, and it
would be a shame to miss the support opportunity where there is demand. That being said, only kits with strong interest will be available at group buy.

Base covers most standard boards ranging 60% to F13 TKL, and is inclusive of HHKB with 6u bottom row and R3 Control. For the deep space enjoyer, the alt alphas kit moves UFO into
tasteful monotone territory...and the inclusion of another tab makes it possible to kit a second board (e.g. TKL + 65 or TKL + 60), though picking up novelties makes this job easier on the eye!
Child kit compatibility includes numpad, basic 40s, and Alice minibars. The "QWERTY" alert row brings the celestial yellow alert to NRL, and 10u spacebar and BAE are just here for fun.

The novelties are the real star of this project; are all doubleshot save for the ISO enter, which must be UV printed as doubleshot can only be in the top half of the key.
Two 1u stars are available for each of top and bottom row, with two more for row 2 in support of NRL builds. 7u bottom row has been prioritised for two complementary 1.5u bottom row graphics, which
makes the most of the symmetry that 6.25u can't offer. Novelties are designed by me with invaluable input from the community, and will be brought to life by the talented Deadeye.

Also, the alien is named Zlörp and the cow is named Bert.

UFO will be sold and distributed by:

UK: Basil (BasilKeys)
EU: LéHoy
US: ninjabrer (KokiCraft)
SEA: Lamy

I'm thrilled to be working again with LéHoy, ninjabrer, and Lamy to deliver UFO from the UK, Germany, USA, and Singapore! As with
DCS Good Morning, this group buy will run independently of vendors; we will handle orders and fulfilment ourselves.

Pricing is highly dependent on interest/MOQ. Based on numbers from our previous set I'd ballpark base in the $110–140 range for US buyers.
International pricing will also include import fees, so add your local charges.

Inspiration and colour samples

More

DCS UFO began as DCS Starry Night, as I wanted to bring Van Gogh's painting to my keyboard. Maybe some of it still remains? The yellow alert was supposed to be the stars.
As the set got more and more refined it also moved further and further from The Starry Night, and I realised the part of the set I was enjoying was actually the space theme.
So a few stars and alien novelties later, here we are...!

The set will use BBI, BGN, BGU, YCC, and YCE.

Wanting to avoid translucency issues, I've already commissioned samples for the high contrast keys: anything with yellow or navy. It was worth doing because YCC (the bottom tab key in my hand)
as a legend is too muddy; fortunately YCE (on top) is exactly what I envisioned and gives a beautiful bright yellow with good contrast on BBI.

I've done my best to colour correct these images to what I can see in front of me! BBI is the blue from DCS SMRT. If you have Peppabeit, the yellow alphas on that are YCC.

Whoops! Thanks for catching that. It's uploading all stretched sideways at the moment...I am re-rendering and will stick it up there when done.
