We're getting tired of turkey leftovers so had Pizza tonight.

we put the rest of the turkey into a 'turkey curry' over rice, came out pretty awesome.  But now we're sick of turkey curry over rice.

i usually make gravy with turkey drippings and heart/liver. didn't feel like it this year (turkey's juicy so no need for gravy) so i just poured the turkey drippings for the dog to eat in his bowl. He licked that bowl so clean it was like spit polished.

When they translate "Dog" to English, as food, they should call it "Useless Dog" instead. That way we feel better about it, plus it's funnier.

I am not only opposed to eating dogs and cats for food, but also to feeding elements from sheep carcasses to sheep or cattle. This is where the BSE problem came from.

Except for fish, which live in their own world somewhat biologically alien from ours, any animal the meat from which is intended for human consumption should be kept on a strictly vegetarian diet. Humans may need to eat meat, but it is dangerous to go any higher on the food chain than you have to.

Men are not vultures, able to cope with arbitrary pathogens in their food.

rant: yea bush sucked ass.
Quote
In December 2005, the Saudi king expressed his anger that the Bush administration had ignored his advice against going to war. According to a cable from the American Embassy in Riyadh, the king argued “that whereas in the past the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Saddam Hussein had agreed on the need to contain Iran, U.S. policy had now given Iraq to Iran as a ‘gift on a golden platter.’ ”

ah, but we didnt go to war with iran. In fact what the wikileaks cache reveals is just how much the allies including obama sought to avoid that, despite real pressure from the arab countries to do just that.

obama's approach is the right one: carrots plus threats.  We may yet go to war with iran, but it wont be on 'suspicion' of wmd and made-up evidence, bush-style. It'll be based on real evidence and wide-ass coalition including a dozen arab nations themselves fully behind it.

today's rant: straw-man arguments suck ass. bush-style.

you mean such as bush's own quotes upstream in this very thread?

or you can read colin powell's own book where he expresses his disappointment in retrospect about the made up wmd evidence - you remember, he was the one who announced that 'evidence' to the UN. And got hung out to dry by the administration over it.

you miss the point bro. read the times article i linked, it mentions all the arab countries around iran that were pushing for war against iran. Its a very different thing when we go to war with those countries behind us, for how it appears to the folks in the middle east. Without them, it looks like arrogant american intervention (like iraq). With them it has credibility.

exactly right -- but as the times article makes clear, Obama's admin was smarter  than bush's this time, insisting that the arab countries go public with their support. Thats smart, and i think, necessary, should we come to blows with iran.

Its very clear how much those arab regimes want to play the 'double game'; on the one hand have america (and israel) do their dirty work for them, on the other hand pretend like they're against it to get street cred with their populations. its complete bull****. Its gotta stop. I was really glad to see Obama's admin put their foot down on that.

here's something else interesting, for all the huffing and puffing over the stupid-ass wikileaks site, most of the info revealed so far does CREDIT to the west. It shows how much dialogue has gone on behind the scenes, how much cooperation from other countries, and indeed even how much RESTRAINT the west has shown so far in the face of amazing belligerence and real danger by regimes like iran's and north korea's.

it actually makes the western democratic coalition look really civilized. More so than not. I'm glad the stupid wikileaks stuff came out. I have to think the obama admin is secretly pretty happy about it too.

The main story here is how duplicitious the arab regimes have been, if anything, in privately urging israel and the Us to attack iran while publicly being silent about it.

It even shows how Obama was able to get russia and china on board, in a way that bush was totally incapable of doing.

the second batch of wikileaks documents once again makes the obama admin look pretty good. I cant imagine the admin is anything but happy with these, despite all the complaining.

basically: china is "tiring" of north korea and wants the koreas united under the control of south korea, china wont intervene if the north collapses economically and politically, and china wants the US to have a strong role in the talks between the koreas, and china believes its future lies with its ties to the US, japan, and south korea.

Not bad at all an outcome for Obama, considering the possibilities.

not only are these "leaks" not damaging, on the contrary, they make our side look pretty good.

Today's rant: Me being such an idiot

Why did I not pay for a tracked delivery on my new keyboard? Every time our office door opens I get a little rush of excitement because it could be here, which is very quickly followed by disappointment and frustration because it's not! It could be anywhere right now but it feels like the delivery is always five minutes away. I might've saved myself 5% on the cost of my keyboard but the stress is taking hours off my life!

There are hundreds of thousands of documents we're talking about here. Given that I'm sure you haven't read through them, I am confident that you are in no way educated enough to be able to comment regarding whether they make the current administration look good or bad.

today's rant: outlook search BLOWS.  I can *never* find an email I want cuz windows indexer is so damn slow and so damn incomplete. Even in win7, even with a fast computer. It just throttles back at every opportunity and its never ready. Lots of complaints on this online too.

This is the sort of thing that gives MS such a bad name. They finally built a stable desktop search indexer, and then they throttle it back so much its UNUSEABLE.  In the age of instant searches, it does NOTHING, much like the proverbial goggles.

You cant even tell it to index at high speed and come back later. No such option. (yea, third party tools, but again, why were they needed?). Or $40 for Lookeen.

****ing MS.  I want to see MS succeed, and then they do utter crap like this on one of the most widely used features in their software.

Google desktop search doesnt yet support Outlook 2010. SO basically if you have office 2010, you can forget about finding any emails via search. WTF, MS.

And thus is the comic tragedy of MS - you wish their stuff wasn't ****, but it almost invariably is.

well, to be fair its down to one or two things (tho highly annoying things) now. I'm still not going mac.

bonus rant: People who put "cheers" in their signature and thus sign off every single email with "Cheers".  Its so annoying! So they'll write a serious or sad email, and forget they have that in their email, and still sign off automatically with "Cheers!".  And besides -- if the "Cheers!" is automatically added, does it still have any emotive value? Doesnt it become robotic and lifeless? They dont mean to cheer me at all! And its value is cheapened cuz i know the sender has "Cheered" everyone they ever email, so there's nothing special about me at all!
And lastly, why "Cheers"? What, are we in ****ing England? WTF!  Is that a pathetic attempt to sound sophisticated?!

You are literally the biggest whiner I have ever known. You wouldn't last a day where I work - fortunately they don't tolerate that stuff :D

And thus is the comic tragedy of MS - you wish their stuff wasn't ****, but it almost always is.

Its worse than just throttling back the search so it never completes indexing. For instance: if outlook program isnt left open, no emails get indexed - period. So you also have to remember to leave outlook running all the time? WTF. Jesus christ that is so ****ing retarded and I dont know why MS does these things with their heads so far up their ****ing asses. Seriously. One single everyday user of Outlook can tell them how incredibly useless and frustrating it is to try to search emails in outlook. One single one. What the **** are they spending their ****ing billions on?

There's something ironic about this statement.
