Back to my Xxxxxxx and loving it.

Back to my Kinesis Contour and loving it. I started a project about a year ago, to replace the mylar keys with Cherry browns like the rest of the board. Once the old F keys were disabled, the keyboard stopped returning to my desk between mod sessions. One thing followed another with technical delays compounding delays from family concerns.

Ooh, la, la! This is what typing should be. In a year, I had forgotten why I consider the Contour to be the ultimate keyboard. Hand position, movement required (i.e. lack thereof), and Cherry brown tactile. Orgasm.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

You know, I was just going to comment that I'm still having trouble getting used to my kinesis, and I notice that I made your sig.

That's a bit embarrassing, actually. Ah well. It's still true!

I'd like to try a Kinesis Advantage or similar, but I do not like Cherry Browns.  Have you opened it up?  If so, do you think it would be a lot of work to replace the switches with Cherry Blues?  Ideally, I'd like to pop in some IBM buckling (or beam) springs into that form-factor to try it, but I know that would be a major undertaking.

Hmm, making looking forward to using my Kinesis Pro again a bit, now that I've cleaned it.

The lack of hand travel is great though. And the backspace key.

I keep coming back to my M13. For whatever reason, I just don't get on with other boards for extended periods of time (Other than the AT F, but I need to sort out the Spacebar now that I have a new one, thanks HaaTaa!), and back out it comes.

The M13 is a great board, and I keep pulling mine out and using it for a day or two. It's the only buckling spring board I use any more.

You mean I'm not the only one who dislikes them?

There's a hard-to-load project page on otd.kr in which a korean installs Cherry reds, mechanical FKeys, and a trackpad into his Contour, so we know switch swapping is possible. I've also dreamed of a Cherry blue Contour, but I ended up selling my second Contour before starting that mod.

EDIT
Even my PDF print from the page didn't create properly. :-(

you want to replace the browns with blues? mass desoldering doesn't take long, neither does resoldering.

Wow, that Cherry Red mod is epic!  I particularly enjoyed this line from the Google Translation to English:

He's right.  I'm on the phone with my ex in that pic.  Xs, are you going to make our court date?  The judge said I get full custody of the kids.  All 12 of them.  I hope Wal-Mart is back in stock on Ramen by next week or I'm going to want more child support.

Yeah they are pretty zany.

And I love that mod that the Korean did. I was thinking how great it would be to have a trackpad build into the Kinesis.

Oh yeah, cool keyboard mod too. I always wanted to test drive one of those keyboards, but sadly I may never get the chance. If a member has one I could try out, I'll pay shipping both ways and maybe even buy the thing off you. PM me.
