yea that's nice to know.. thanks again for the opinion
also i wanted to ask (without starting a whole new thread) .. i understand the topre has a tactile bump.. is it at all like the cherry blues or more like the browns? i ask this because I find when I play games (as in spamming the same button more than once), the blues aren't that great of a switch to do that with.. but with the browns the switch is very subtle so i find spamming the same key not bad at all. can you give me an opinion on this? is the topre suitable for same key spamming?
I was recently; well actually currently in a similar dilemma as you. I was on the hunt for the "perfect" keyboard to suit my gaming and casual typing wants/needs. To keep it short, I ended up getting a Filco with browns and a HHKB pro because after much deliberation, I decided I needed to try them both out for myself. After doing so, I can honestly say I prefer the Topre over the MX browns. It is hard to explain why, but I will attempt to do that when I explain the difference in feel they each have. Not that I do not like the browns, because it is actually the nicest keyboard I have owned aside from the HHKB (essentially got them within days of each other).
Now that I have found the switch type I prefer, I would like to get a tenkeyless non weighted 55g Realforce also. I almost jumped on the preorder of the weighted version on EKB but would really rather wait for what I am
really looking for.
As for the tactile bump of the Topre, it does not really feel similar to the browns imo. It is hard to explain in words to someone who has not tried them out for themselves, but since you have tried the browns I will try my best to compare them. If I were to descibe the feeling of the browns I would say it feels like this: Little resistance to the actuation point, slight bump at the point of actuation, then again little resistance until you bottom out. Also I would note that the travel from rest to actuation is shorter than the travel from the slight bump to bottoming out. I would say about 1.5x the amount of travel (pure guesstimation). But the feeling of initial travel before the bump feels essentially the same as the resistance after the bump on until you bottom out completely (key resistance feels the same all the way thru the stroke except for the bump). As for the Topre, I would describe it as: Little resistance, slight bump at the point of actuation, little resistance, little more resistance, feel like your about to bottom out, then finally bottom out. It is almost as if the key is preparing for you to bottom out, and it does not happen so suddenly like the MX switch. Again the travel from rest to actuation feels shorter than actuation to bottom out, but the feeling between actuation and bottoming out is where the Topre wins my vote. I am a gamer first, and noticed I am almost always bottoming out unless making a conscious effort not to. It sounds like you are the same? If you bottom out a lot I would recommend the Topre, the extra dimension of feeling you get after actuation really enhances the overall feel of pressing each key. The extra feeling just makes the key presses seem much smoother, really it is hard to describe and I wish I could do a better job, but trust me *wink* it feels great!
Feel free to ask any other questions, and if you are able to find a non weighted tenkeyless realforce please let me know!!
