How to increase the repeat rate of my keyboard?
« on: Fri, 21 January 2011, 01:45:58 »
Hallo,

thats my first post on geekhack and i hope this is the right section for my question.

I used to have a X7 A4tech keyboard and recently bought a 6gv2 steelseries keyboard. The problem is you were able to increase the X7's repeatrate with a button on the top right - and now the 6gv2 seems to be way slower repeating keys than what iam used to. Iam looking for way to increase the repeatrate - can i change some hkey variables or are there any programs out that allow me to do so?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks repeatrate

That made it a little bit faster but there is still a huge difference to my old keyboard  settings. Is there a way to increase my repeat rate even more?

/E actually found an answer to my problem on the interwebz

i changed the HKEY variables to this and now my repeatrate is acceptable - probably needs some finetuning there but yeah.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response]
"AutoRepeatDelay"="250"
"AutoRepeatRate"="13"
"BounceTime"="0"
"DelayBeforeAcceptance"="6"
"Flags"="59"

Now my Zerglings will come out as fast as they did with my old keyboard.

I checked those keyboard out and on their specs. Most if not all seem to specify PS/2 hell they even sell some with terminated with PS/2.

Were you by any chance using PS/2 port before hand?

I don't want to turn this into a PS/2 vs USB thing but maybe that's why?

The X7(old keyboard) was plugged in with a PS/2 but came with an adapter for USB iirc.
The 6gv2 came with USB and i plugged it in with the PS/2 adapter because i had some issues with my shift key before and using PS/2 magically fixed it.

Did your A4tech have a turbo button? I looked it up again and apparently some of the G-models have a turbo button.

Aren't these registry settings for accessibility options only? Or did they change that at some point? I'd check the accessibility settings relating to keyboard.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

yes but in the accessibility options the values i  can enter are limited, changing the HKEY variables allows me to increase the speed from 33 letters per second to something around 80-90 per second. I could also reduce the time for holding down a key giving out the same character again.

When i click on the accessibilty options now i have to change HKEY variables again because it reset the values to standard values.

Ah, so the keyboard settings and keyboard accessibility settings have been merged? (Those registry keys used to belong to FilterKeys and other accessibility features, while regular repeat/delay values were stored under HKCU\Control Panel\Keyboard.) Control Panel is such a mess from Vista onwards.
