Remapping Leopold Win/Alt in OS X
« on: Fri, 08 April 2011, 00:28:23 »
The first thing I do after plugging a new keyboard in is remap Opt to Cmd and Cmd to Opt in System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys. Well, for whatever reason, the settings aren't "taking" with this new Leopold keyboard.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm gonna try to find a third-party key mapping tool to see if that does the trick...

Matt

Oddly enough, KeyRemap4MacBook was able to swap the keys successfully (use the "Swap Start (aka Command) and Alt keys on Windows keyboard" setting). I'm still curious to know if anyone else is having the same problem, or if it's just me (OS X 10.6.7, BTW).

So I was confused at first when I did this as well. You have to make sure you select "USB Keyboard" when you do it from the dropdown. Mine kept selecting something saying "Razer Blah" for some reason I don't know.

I made sure (several times) that "USB Keyboard" was selected in the dropdown before I started changing the settings. I hit OK afterward. I even quit System Preferences and came back in, and it still didn't work.

No other problems so far. The "Scroll Lock" key doesn't light up for obvious reasons, but other than that, it works just fine.

Filco is overall a nicer board to be honest. My Leopold is back in the box until I get new keys and some lithium grease to fix those stabilizers.

(also yay, 200 posts. :)

The plot thickens. When I unplugged the keyboard from my USB hub and plugged it directly into the computer, the built-in key mapping started working properly. Very strange.

I've never had a problem with any other device plugged into this hub, and I've never had a problem swapping the keys of any other USB keyboard plugged into this hub. Very, very odd.

I'm having this exact same issue. When I put my MacBook Air to sleep it seems to forget the modifier key changes I made when it wakes up. Sometimes even unplugging and replugging it in doesn't do the trick. Sometimes I just reboot to fix it. KeyRemap works, but it also swaps my built in keyboard and when I'm mobile that's just annoying.
