Are KBC Pokers a Littler Stiffer than Other Boards?
« on: Thu, 23 June 2011, 15:31:52 »
So, I'm don't know if it's just me, but I'm wondering if anybody else who has a poker brown feels like the spring in the switch is a little stiffer than other browns? I kind of like it, but I definitely don't think I'll use for more than what I bought it for-- as a portable board. The tactile bump is *really* pronounced. Where I don't feel it as much on the filco, this board comes back at me. Spicy.

I'm not sure if I did the 'nickel test' correctly, but it took 11 to activate the switch, which is normal enough. I guess reds are next down the line.

I've had the filco about three weeks, though I remember it being a light typer, where the feedback wasn't something that I thought about too much, when I first opened it. I've been using this board exclusively since Saturday.

I haven't noticed stiffer springs, but I have noticed the tactile bump being more pronounced. It probably has something to do with more force being absorbed by the board because of a lack of the metal plate.

Yeah, I think I might be picking up more on the bump than the stiffness. Good call on the missing metal plate; that might make a difference. This more pronounced bump has definitely made me learn to stop bottoming out.

I don't believe it's the keyboard necessarily; I have found variations in the feeling of brown switches on the same type of keyboard. I have used 4 different Kinesis Advantage with browns, and the switches on each felt different. On my first one, a white PS/2, they felt rather stiff. Then I got a black USB one at work, which felt noticeably lighter. A few months back I bought another white PS/2 one (not new but barely used) and it feels lighter than the USB one. This killed all my theories about the variation of the keyboard having something to do with switch feel.

I think the switches on Filcos feel a bit stiff. That is why I like the Choc Mini more. Even the reds feel tireing on the Filco after a while.

It's not the keyboard. Different batches of cherry switches can feel different.

It's gotta be the spring. I mean, that's the main thing that provides the resistance, isn't it?

Sometimes on the same board...

Do a quick run with "switch-o-meter" (better than rip-o-meter for this purpose) and you'll be surprised...

You should double check on dictionary what "theory" means

Unlike me, English is your mother tongue so you should use it properly.

You're starting to remind me of Wellington1869 a lot too.

I don't know anything about him, but I'm starting to think he was a nice guy, given your opinion about him.

So nothing to do with me, I started with the impossibility of RMA two of the keyboard I got that came with broken switches.

I think KL is at that tipping point about now because of a silly ping issue.

Except I never RMAed anything nor ever suggested anyone to do it!

I got one with reds, and it feels stiff. I thought I had received a blacks board by mistake and had to pop off a keycap. It definitely feels stiffer than my Leopold with browns. I did the rip-o-meter and 11 nickels on the J key for activation point. Seems a little heavy no? That said I do like it however. I expected it to feel a little cheap but it is surprisingly solid. Now to get used to some of the layout quirks.

That's funny, because my Poker with reds feels looser than my Filco with reds.. but my Poker w/ Browns feels stiffer than my Filco with browns.
