Ducky 9008-G2 OCN or Filco Majestouch-2 (red switch)
« on: Thu, 23 June 2011, 23:53:17 »
Hi i'm here looking for advice about whether to buy a ducky 9008 PBT brown switch from OCN or the limited edition red switch filco. I did manage to find one topic similar to this but didn't have the same circumstances or the information i require xD. i spend 50% of my time typing and 50% of my time gaming maybe slightly more favorable towards gaming. The reason i cant decide is iv'e heard the problems with the filco pinging and i dont know if that would irritate me to much and to be honest found it quite hard to find information about ducky keyboards.

Maybe i have missed somewhere that there is already this exact question answered if so i'm sorry. Also does anyone know what plastic type the blank black key set of keayboardCo is.

thanks.

I don't know about the current batch of OCN Ducky.  The printing on the keycaps seems to wear off prematurely.  I'd go with a Filco reds instead.  And of all the Filcos that I own, haven't heard pinging from any of them yet so I'd say it's not very common.

Hardly more prematurely than filco ones

^ I haven't seen a Filco legends wear off after 2 weeks but there are more than quite a few members over at OCN complained about keycaps wearing off after 2 weeks of normal use.  Here's the link to that famous locked thread. lol

Edit: here's another.  I'm sure I could find more but too lazy to look.

Two weeks or two months doesn't count a lot, is a ridiculous amount of time for a supposedly first of the class mech keyboard.

On my last tour of maintenance on one of my customers i i took a look to their keyboards (they are 70 more or less).

Well... some of them are first price acer, samsung, no brand keyboards (less than 5€ a piece), some of them are still perfectly working after a decade of continuous usage, most of them still have all the legends in place.

Would a topre 103UB (Not 55 g) be bad for gaming because of the different weights the keys need to activate ?

Either switch will probably work for you, the Ducky will probably be substantially cheaper; if it's not because of shipping or whatever, then you might as well get the Filco.  If you are concerned about the ringing (I would be if I were buying another one), make sure to buy it from a retailer that has a reasonable return policy so you can send it back if you get a loud one.  As far as I know, no one has had the same problem with the Ducky to the degree that it is bothersome.
