I know the HHKB Pro 2 Type-S just got released last month. It's a more silent version of the HHKB Pro 2. It looks like it's a matter of preference: whether you like the sound or not. I, for one, don't mind the noise, but still want to try out the newer one rather than the regular HHKB.

Does anyone know when we can see the Type-S in North America?

Since it just came out so recently in Japan, I don't think we'll find one here soon. Maybe elitekeyboards will have them, but I'm not even sure how well the HHKB sells on their site. I'm actually interested in one myself.

Thanks for your input hcry4. Do you know what other advantages the Type-S has over the regular?
Is it replacing the regular version?

Not sure of the advantages, if any. Supposedly faster and quieter typing. I'd like to try it out and see which I like more. I don't think it will replace the regular ones. It probably just means ripster will have to wait even longer for HHKB 3.

Have we ever heard of possible rumours on it?

And I guess it simply comes down to preferences then.

The HHKB3 will be made entirely out of chocolate. True story.
The type-s is just some o-rings dampening the sound.

There's no news at all of weather there will be a HHKB3 and the type S is just a small run....its not replacing the HHKB I think its just 2000 units and that's it. Personally I like the sound of HHKB and wouldnt want it quite but that's me

I have a silence edition realforce87U (SE170S) Topre put out before fujitsu's HHKB type-S. I also have the regular 87U (SE1700). They are both sitting at home in Japan. I am in Canada now but I will post a detailed review later.

If you can return to Japan by July 13, you can try a type-S in Kawasaki.

I cannot afford a type-S, but I'm curious about its mileage as compared with my DIY silencing mod.
I'm not sure whether I can go to Kawasaki. If I can go and try it I will post a report.

Geez christ that was loud. The S sounded like reds or even browns but sound doesnt matter to me unless i was in a quiet work environment.
