it's a G81, but other than the stepped caps lock looks like pretty much all the keys ought to be able to be used on a bog standard Cherry 104 key 'board.

I have an offer in on two of them I will let you know if he accepts it.

They do not. The bottom row has off center stems, and are pad printed. They are also not 'gently used' but rather fairly worn. See here http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?19975-G81-8000hpbus
Better off buying a set from 99hk.biz at a slightly higher price for actual compatible new set.

I knew that the Win and Menu keys were pad printed, but nobody ever uses those anyway... and I know about modding the caps lock...  but do you mean that I couldn't use the whole bottom row at all?  that's disappointing.

I really like the old school look of big doubleshots... really want to find a set of black on white/grey doubleshots but I know I'm dreaming now

Edit: I already did find 99hk.biz's post and am seriously considering ordering those...  just don't know if I'm getting stupid on keyboards or not.  I figure $140 for a new keyboard, then I'm going to rip it apart and put in clears, and finally spend money for doubleshots for it...  am I tarded?  probably.  But I just want a good looking keyboard that feels as good to type on as it looks.  Is that so wrong?

Nope bottom row is useless unless you want to do the same as on caps lock. Black on white / beige is easy if you want incomplete match European set, like German. I think there are a few of those sets for sale on the classifieds.

yes, he just replied to my WTB post and that is almost exactly what I was looking for.  I can feel my pockets getting emptier now.  but then I'd need a moogle kit as I imagine that I am probably going to use them on a Filco, Leopold, WASD or something like that.  Eh, it's only money right? :)

So it looks like I can get both black or old school doubleshots if I really want them...  this place is great...

Dammit.  you were right.

Seller accepted my offer and rather than back out I just paid... got two boards, one kinda shiny, one actually really, really nice... but the bottom row is as you say useless without modding.

So now I'm swimming in black doubleshots that I can't actually use on anything without a moogle kit or some modding.  And I probably will end up buying the old school ones, 'cause they're cool.

Even with 99hk.biz's $80 sets you still have to mod the capslock and spacebar or get a moogle kit, right?

capslock yes, I think the spacebar will work on a Cherry brand board as is but will need to be modded for a Filco or Das.  But the ones I got require more modding...  the whole bottom row is the right size but the keys have offset stems.  Why, Cherry, Why?
