How does the silent and non silent version compare?

There is a video around here comparing the two. The silent one.... really is a lot more silent. That's really all I can say after seeing the video. There is quite a difference. I prefer the extra noise myself. I can see a lot of people preferring the silent model especially in office environments. Maybe while answering the phone.

both really, i was just commenting on the pricing as a consumer..speculating i guess you might say.

GLWS, you just lost yourself a paying customer

I lost a "paying" (redundant) customer because I corrected you and then, almost verbatim, reformatted your own speculation of me "screwing" my customers just to joke with you a little...and that crossed the line?

Grow a spine man.

Nothing worse about being incorrect than whining about it and throwing in the towel when someone calls you on it.

I'm not trying to troll or be contrary just for the hell of it. I work hard getting stuff from Japan into the states and I try to do so at world market prices or better. Heck, sometimes with the speed the exchange rates are changing I'm selling stuff just for the elite lulz and hardly making a dime, hence prices have to go up sometimes so I can stay in business.

BTW, for those who asked, more models of the 87U, i.e uniform weightings, are on the way this month.

Will the pricing of the uniform weight models be the same as the variable? Also, any chance of getting the yellow lettered Topre keycap sets?

by uniform, do you mean 45g or just the 55g?
Could you feel any difference between the silent and non silent version other that the noise?

Pricing will be the same across the line. The colored keycaps are a hit, so you probably haven't seen the last of them;)

I have no problem with the pricing and will probly be picking up a uniform weighted when they show up later this month (hopefully in white) but you do have a tendency of kind of talking down to people on these forums,  sometimes its just better to let people speculate and stay out of the conversation.

Trust me, I let A LOT of speculation go by!

Generally, when a sentence ends in a smiley face, I don't assume ill intent, if someone else does, then what can I say...I don't know how to communicate with them by text, so our "text" relationship is going to end there. This happens in life sometimes when two people don't "click," and often for good reason. I move on...

Whatever the case, when someone uses phrases like "screwing customers," expect me to take issue, and on occasion, actually speak up. I don't assume anyone else likes people speaking so cavalierly about their work and decision making skills; I think I deserve the same consideration.

anyhoo...

As for the 87U uniform and silent models inquiries above; there will be multiple uniform models down the line (how soon I can't say) and the silencing does not affect the downstroke, only the sound of the key as it springs back into place.

Oh, and the Leopold JP thing has been address elsewhere in the forum a couple times, basically distribution has changed and they aren't necessary. More Leopold keyboards to come:)

Awesome. I am looking forward to a 87ub 55gram. Yeah, I prefer the up stroke noise .... but that is what I was thinking when I heard the video. My wife purchased the blue keys, are exchanges possible if you get yellow in stock?

Thank you for finally bringing the WHITE 87U to US shores again!  Wish it was cheaper but as soon as the email came through this afternoon I popped one in the cart and checked out faster than you can say carpe diem.

Thanks EK.  I call dibs on the first all 45g white one you receive.

It says the topre colored keys are for realforce only, so they're a no go on HHKB? I figured it would all work the same, just with a lot of left over keys.. thanks for any input.

I have to say that is very sad that Leopold.co.jp are not needed anymore. You may ask why is it sad? Because we could get all kind of Realforce 87U for ONLY 340 USD shipped while right now our unique chance is to buy them for 400 USD or more from a shop that doesn't seem to like european people to buy their keyboards.

You're selling to us europeans a Realforce 87U for 283 Euros while for less price some of us could get a more limited run of Realforce 91 UBY from The Keyboard Company with absoutely no chance of getting ****ed up by customs and with WARRANTY.

Just have to blame your shipping and warranty policy. You should learn on this point from The Keyboard Company.

I want like hell a Low Noise Realforce 87U but you don't put any facilities to buy from you. I fall in love with the Hangul edition, is a shame you don't sell it since maybe I would have to put my pants down and deal with that stupid warrant policy and shipping but well I will have to ask with IOmania.

Is not that we can't pay for 35€ of shipping that you make us feel stupid for sure :loco:

Buying it from Leopold Japan was a good deal for sure.
It cost less than $300 USD before shipping.
I bet EK got these even cheaper.

In theory shouldn't the uniform Topre be less expensive to make?

Probably not. I'm not sure what process they're using for creating the membrane sheets, but the tooling costs would likely be identical for both.

I assume the poor design is due to huffing dye fumes sampling prototypes from those $110 limited edition keysets.  Now THAT'S where the profit is.

What's so funny is my second post at Geekhack was questioning what idiot would pay $35 for a colored WASD/Esc Key set?  Unfortunately Webwit's post is there no more.  It was a classic.

I have never experienced this problem with the variable. Though the pinky keys on my cherry blacks suddenly felt stiff.
It took me some time to get used to them after I sold my variable.

Caps are going fast. When I got there they were out of blue and orange. I tried ordering two sets of red lettered, but it said only one was in stock. So I ordered the one. :)

At least we were careful not to threadcrap your Classified thread.

I just hate that.

If anyone does, it will get reported.

I don't ping around.

They're back! And wayyyy more expensive!

I'm still on the fence about getting an 87U but after thinking about it, the $80 difference between the 86U and 87U is more like $60 since you get the red esc key and the colored WASD keys with the 87U. I had to buy those for $20 for my 86U. The main reason why I want the 87U is for the uniform keys (when they plan to offer it) and the fact that I can replace all the keys with the colored Topre keycap sets. I don't really care for the imbedded numpad and I am neutral about the lighted caps lock.

I'n going broke buying IBM SSKs and realforce keyboards.
IBM SSK - 4
IBM Terminal Mini 1392980 - 2
IBM 1391401 - 12
IBM 42H1292 - 10
IBM Rubber Dome Model Ms - 6
Filco TenkeyLess Blue switches  - 1
Realforce 86U - 2
Realforce 86UB -1
Realforce 87UB 55g -2
Realforce 87U 45g - 1
Realforce 87U Variable Tenth Anniversary - 1
Noppoo Choc Mini Blues - 2

Yeah, but Realforce has not released even one firmware upgrade, have they?

And given how lazy Topre engineers seem to be I'd be surprised if they changed it for the colored key sets but ya never know until you try Keyboard Science!

Must be a Kaizen thing...
