The Cherry G80-1502 is a nice keyboard, but is has this ridiculous coiled PS/2 and serial plug cable which weighs almost as much as the board itself.
Since I use it with an USB adapter anyway and do not need the card reader, I replaced the stock cable with a USB cable complete with the little board I got from a PS/2-USB adapter. I tried to make this mod reversible, so I soldered the four leads to the bottom of the controller PCB. The original cable is fully intact and I can replace it should I ever need, desoldering or just snipping the leads to the USB adapter.
It would have been even nicer if I had a grey USB cable to spare, but the black will do just fine. I also considered a removable USB cable by building a (mini) USB jack in the casing, but I had none lying around.
The stock cable has the following configuration:
Keyboard PS/2 Serial
BROWN - 7: RTS
ORANGE - 8: CTS
RED - 3: TxD
BLUE - 2: RxD
BLACK 3: GND 5: GND
YELLOW 5: +CLK -
GREEN 4: Vcc -
WHITE 1: +DATA -
