Cherry MX Tenkeyless with num lock?
« on: Mon, 03 October 2011, 12:59:37 »
I know, for example, the Topre Realforce 87U has a num lock key so that you can have a pseudo-num pad in the tenkeyless form factor.  Are there any Cherry MX-based keyboards that have a similar feature?

Hmm.  Any others?  Doesn't sound like this would work with my Mac (which wouldn't be it's primary use and I might just deal with, but like having the option open.)

Yup but the G2 may also give you issues with a Mac.

I found the Ducky 1087 after making this post but I'm a little hesitant based on some of the complaints I've seen regarding its build quality.  I'm thinking maybe I just dive into a tenkeyless head first and forget I ever had a numpad and go with a Filco...

Honestly, most of the claims about the build quality are vastly exaggerated. I haven't owned a 1087 but I have had a 1008 and I was impressed with it. For $95 shipped there really aren't any better options for a keyboard with no number pad. I love my filco but I don't think that you would be disappointed with the ducky. If you want or don't mind a numberpad I would say that you would be better off spending the extra $25 on a WASD keyboard.

Well I'm a bit crowded for space, so I'm trying to decide which is more annoying: the lack of desk space or the lack of numpad when I use it on occasion.

I have a full 104 key now, thinking I would try for something in-between to ween myself off numpad use ;)

Kinesis Advantage ... (not quite as narrow as a Filco Tenkeyless, but not as wide as a full-sized board either)
